what i dont understand is...with the ebays system where u enter your max bid and it bids up to that for u....how are people sniping away at you
say your max bid is at 50 bucks and its sitting at 25 now..if someone tries to snipe at the last second it'll go up to his amount + a bit more until it reaches 50 bucks...which is what i am willing to pay and no more....

Maybe that was your problem.
If you wanted to pay, let's say $250 for a part and the bidding was at $15 you don't throw out $100 with three days to go. You wait until 10 seconds left and place a bid for $250. That way you will either 1) win the item for as much or less than you wanted to spend or 2) lose but know that someone wanted to pay more than you were willing to.
That's the eBay secret.
Jamie has it exactly right. Bid at the last moment. If you are out bid, well you didn't want to pay that much anyway. There are some serious saving to be had this way.
