Well took the bike out yesterday...... While the thing was working great, well things didn't end the way I had planed the first ride with the new set up.

To give you an idea of how my ride ended, here are a couple pics of my hat.....

and no that won't buff out.....

Well I'm pretty much ok. 7 stitches above me left knee where blunt force trauma split my leg open. I don't remember the accident but will post up more in the next few days.

The bike......well I'm not really sure right now. The plastics are FUBARed but the rest of the damage looks minimal on the first quick inspection. I did manage to land in the only mud patch on that stretch of road, so things could have been much worse.

SO it's time to pop vicodin, watch WSBK & Moto GP on the tube and cry in my beer. Hell I get one day on the pity pot..... then it's back to figuring out what to do from here......

RickB 04-11-2010 11:50 AM

Glad to hear you made out ok, hopefully its just minor damage and you can get the bike back on the road quickly... Hope you feel better.

AngryOlaf 04-11-2010 11:59 AM

Ouch!!! :( Really sorry to hear that. I hope that your leg heals fast and that the damage to your bike is minimal.

j shizzy wizzy 04-11-2010 12:49 PM

Jeeezus! the superhawks are dropping like flies this spring, or so it seems! Good to hear you are ok!

skoshere 04-11-2010 01:31 PM

prime example of what wearing a helmet does for you... without the helmet it could have been a lot worse!

hope you heal up quick

luis saleiro 04-11-2010 01:34 PM

Sorry to hear that.
IŽve fall in mine for 2 times, and it really hurt both in the body and in the bike.

Hope youŽll get better soon and get your hawk riding good.

PS- Glad you use helmet

VTRsurfer 04-11-2010 02:53 PM

Glad you're pretty much okay, +1 for full face helmets. Your's looks similar to my Mike Baldwin replica 21 years ago, although mine got the faceshield also.

Forget the Vicodin, just drink the beer. I missed the WSBK, but the MotoGP was a good race.

By the way, I've been researching carb work, mine is shimmed .020", and I'm going to follow your suggestion on the 48 pilots and .040" shim, since my bike will have Yosh slip-ons when I get it back from my crash repair.

Tweety 04-11-2010 03:17 PM

Ouch!... And I mean that both literally and in terms of the bike...

Hopefully it wasn't a mechanical failure? Just over confidence or riding to fast?

Heal, and get well... the bike is mend-able or replaceable...

JPP 04-11-2010 03:46 PM

Vicodin and the beer works best. I'm not a DR.... But I used to play one with the girl next door.

mikstr 04-11-2010 03:52 PM

Sorry to hear about your incident/accident Mike but it sounds as though you'll pull through, and that's the main thing...

offroad_rider2008 04-11-2010 04:05 PM

Damn Mike, sorry to hear bout your mishap, hope everything gets healed soon, sooo how was the new front end doing up until the end of your ride? i was waiting for your post on it, sry it ended like it did, best of wishes to ya brother, p.s. easy on the beer, that stuffs not good for ya:)

RK1 04-11-2010 04:07 PM

Sorry about your get off. Glad you came through as good as you did.

When it comes to killing pain while leaving your head clear and you still able to do things, Vicodin rules.

Well here are some pics of the "spot". No it was not a mechanical failure and we weren't going that fast. I can only guess at what really happened as I don't remember the get off or about 2 mins after. But I believe I still have the suspension a bit too stiff. Then it was just the right combination of pot holes and gravel.

I guess I do still have a touch of the Irish luck as if you look close at the pics, I landed in the only mud patch on that stretch of road.

As for the bike, on the first quick inspection it looks like the damage is mainly to the body work. I might have bent the left clip on and also sheared off the clutch res. My new Leos have a bit of rash but don't look too bad. I will know more this week when I get it stripped and washed.

Well, I'm glad you're ok. I'm really sorry about the bike and the leg. Important thing is, you're ok.

AdamK 04-12-2010 06:14 AM

Get better soon, riding season is just starting.

VTRsurfer 04-12-2010 10:49 AM

Wow Mike, glad it wasn't worse, after seeing the photos.

That's sure not Castro Valley, I spent some time visiting CV in the late '60s and '70s, since my ex-wife had a lot of family there, Portuguese. Is that outside of Santa Cruz?

cliby 04-12-2010 11:12 AM

wow mike, really sorry to hear about the crash, but very glad you will be OK. take care and to a speedy recovery. take your time with the bike - its all replaceable and probably upgradable at the same time!

lazn 04-12-2010 11:24 AM

Sorry to hear about the crash.. Glad you are not too torn up. Heal well!

Syclone 04-12-2010 12:12 PM

Glad to hear you're okay, sorry about the "new" bike...

NAVY8TR 04-12-2010 02:22 PM

major bummer man. glad it wasn't too serious. hope the recovery/rebuild goes smoothly for you

ranchomice 04-12-2010 02:27 PM

Man, that road looks horrible! There is a portion near me of a real nice road (other than a small portion) and you have to be super slow and careful not to be thrown from the bike.

peterpanic 04-12-2010 05:33 PM

Some real bad roads around here this spring. Very rough winter for tarmac. I've hit some holes that really made me take a good look at the wheels and tires afterwards. Bearings and seals...shit, what's the point? Feel better and start planning the next incarnation. I've been ripping little jaunts without the fairings and think I may go "convertible". A headlight, signal and mirror combo to swap on in place of the full fairings once in a while. Maybe an amp and speakers for the ipod too!

wjfrank07 04-13-2010 06:32 PM

Thats too bad. Hopefully you get back on the road soon.

eddie baker 04-13-2010 07:00 PM

man that sucks glad ur ok though, but it gives u a reason to modify at least thats what i always think look on the bright side

inderocker 04-13-2010 07:29 PM

Glad you're okay! You may want to go ahead and order that replacement bar from Swatt now so that they can possibly get one out to you before the season's over! ;)

VTS 04-13-2010 08:44 PM

Son of a gun!

Obviously we are all pulling for you.

The best.
