1290 SMT?

Spied: New KTM 1290 sports tourer | MCN

I hope this bike does become available.....and those that own a 12'-13' 990 SMT just have to have it. There's not many 990 SMT's available in the states.
Honda, please take notice.......

mikstr 11-27-2014 05:06 AM

sadly, modern-day Honda are probably hard at work on the successor to the DN-01 and NM4......

xeris 11-27-2014 05:48 AM

Ah.. the NM4. The love child of a Fury and NC700.
I mostly blame the buying public for these creations, although Honda is not helping.

I found it interesting that the "New" KTM 1050 SMT is down on HP by quite a bit compared to the no-longer-available 990 SMT (114HP vs. 95HP listed). Not sure why other than the advertised appeal to new riders. This makes the older model even more appealing to me. I'm sure those of you that own a 990 would agree?

Gawd, these Ktooms are trying to pry me away from my beloved Hawk! The SuperDukeR is one bad-ass mowsheen! Put a little wind protection on there and I'm going to have to start saving!

Hell, I'm trying to find a way to ADD a KTM to my garage, right next to the Hawk. The SMT is appealing, hey, its nice to dream.

an SMT version of the 1290 Super Duke would be very hard to refuse IMO...... sporty and practical hooligan.....

skokievtr 11-28-2014 04:02 PM

Yea baby I'd like to shag that...

I agree about no need for that "beak".

Kind of what I've done to my VTR but a lot more get up n go...

One can significantly improve the ergonomics of the VTR to create a "Gentleman's Express" without too much effort and cost...

I wanna test ride this KTM! It looks very promising! Digging the raised handlebar. I bet the riding position is very comfy.

I have been looking for a a new bike for a while but it's tough when you are used to the SH. There are basically no comparable alternatives unless you go for an used SV1000.

Dayuummm!! the KTM got 152-hp (at the rear wheel) with 93 pound-feet of torque. A beast
