Where to buy?

I'm shipping for a new shock for the SHawk. Today's my anniversary, I got my tax return back, and the wife said "Happy Anniversary", so I have a $750 kitchen pass!!!
I know several of you own each of different types of aftermarket shocks.
I can lay my hands on a VTR-built Penske 8983 series for $750, and this seems a good deal to me. Any of you guys have better ideas for about the same money, or a better deal?

I've always had good advice from fellow listers, and I've been a "lurker" (mostly) for about 3yrs now.

Looking for a solid improvement to the handling, and the fork is mostly complete (braced, RaceTech'd, springs changed). HELP...thanks in advance.

Well, there's always ebay. Lindemann is decent. Stay away from Traxxion, I've never liked Max that much. He's sorta hard-headed, and that's a nice word for it. Dave at GP Suspension does super work, has Penske, AND gives a 15% discount to military. Tell him I sent ya'.

Is $750 for this Penske a decent deal?
I know the Ohlins models are over $1K now...I've seen a few "old" prices around (~900), but I'm not sure I want one anyway. I've also heard the extra features aren't that valuable, and they require service more frequently.

eBay doesn't often have shocks for VTRs. I've been watching for several months, and have only seen 2 in that time. One was an Ohlins from a salvor in WV, and they "sold it out from under me". I offered a good price to end an auction early, they accepted, then ended the listing when they sold it locally for the same price. I won't deal with them again.

I'll check GP...maybe they'll be lower. The shop I can get this price from is highly reputable, owned/run by a former AHRMA champ (rode li'l Hawks & RC51s), and he said the price was solid. I know he stands by his word also.

Thanks for your advice Greg.

Yeah, that's a decent price, but please check with Dave first. He'll respring and revalve it for your weight and make it right for you the first time.

Oh yeah, it's more than you wanted to spend but it sure is pretty: ebay #4572942862

Do these work any better than Penske or Wilbers?
I really like the Wilbers also, you can add hydraulics/ride height, and they're priced like Penske/Fox.

I'm shopping for that Penske myself. The $749 from Hardracing looks like the best price around.
