What's the optimum sprocket size for the Hawk?
 

I've been hearing the stock gearing on the Hawk is too tall. What is a good sprocket combination that increases acceleration without making the top gear highway speed RPM's too high (I'd say keeping it at or around 3500 RPM @ 60 MPH)? I've heard a 15/43 is a good combo, but what does it put the top gear RPM at? Also, is there a rule of thumb that indicates how much your top gear RPM will increase by dropping a tooth on the front sprocket, or adding a tooth on the rear?

I have 2 set-ups right now, I use the 15/43 for the track I ride because it's tight and top speed isn't a great concern. On the street I use a 15/41 because I was always looking for 7th gear.:twisted: It wasn't about top speed just like you said it was the RPM's it was just a little too high on the street.

Isn't 15/41 the stock gearing? I'm trying to find out what would be a good compromise between the stock gearing (which many people say is too tall), and gearing it down a bit without going overboard and bringing the top gear RPM's up too high. I actually went and saw a Honda scooter mechanic today who owns a SH. He said he just dropped one tooth on the front sprocket and the acceleration gain was very noticeable. Others have said they've dropped a tooth on the front and two on the rear, but I'd guess that would really bring the top gear RPM up.

The front is a little light but if you're experienced you can keep it down. It's a little hard to really hammer it in 1st without it comming up but it's a controlled power wheelie. I'll have to get back to you on the 15/41 RPM around 60 because I don't really pay attention to mph on the track. It's not that hard to swap so I'll get back to you on that.

It has an Excel spreadsheet for figuring out the actual speed in every gear with different gearng combos. A 15/43 combo generates about 25 km/h for very thousand rpm.

So, 100 km/h is roughly 60 mph, so your engine rpm would be @ 4K (or extremely close ot it)
