What Gearing do you have

Just wondering what all of you other guys are running? I know many have the 15/43 but just wondering how many other combos are out there? And are you using the stock 102 length chain for your gearing? I am currently running the stock 16/41 but was thinking of trying to use 16/44 to get the shortest wheelbase but unsure if I can do it with the stock chain. I am going to be getting a new chain but since I dont want to make a 103 length chain just wondering if a stock length would work for 16/44. Since it may not work I may end up with a 16/43 or 15/43.

go with 16/43. im at 16/45 and it gets way too buzzy. i want to go back to stock, but i need to get a new rivet link, as you have to add length due to increased circumference to accomodate more teeth on the sprocket, and i have to cut it off and go down in length. (and put the new rivet link on). more and more im starting to think that stock gearing is just fine. i might try thew 16/43, but we'll see

16/43... I fiddeled around with most options, but settled on this... a bit more punch of the line than stock, but not too buzzy on the highway...

+1 on 16/43! I ran 15/43 for a while, but it was too buzzy, so I went to 16/43 and it's just right:)

Also, most new chains are 110 links so you can do whatever you want and just cut chain to length...

Also, I went with 520 and like it fine...

Good luck bro!

You gotta chime in on the poll for that gearing combo you got even if you don't like it.

16/43 520 conv. Works good for me.

I have the 15/43 combo and I love it. I commute 52 miles in a day for work on mostly the highway and it does'nt bother me. I thought it would at first but after a week I didn't notice the extra revs. The extra punch it gives is great. The 16/43 combo would work good too.

Chains always have an even number of links. You can't make a 103 link chain.

I got 15/43 with 520 set up, and about 4 to 5 mph off when riding at speed:75mph

Galaxieman 08-11-2008 10:35 PM

15/42(-1/+1). Can't comment on the poll because my option is not there. Equivalent (ratio-wise) to going to 16/44.8 (+0/+3.8). Not too buzzy on the interstate, works w/ the stock chain, and I can still get 38+ mpg, at least while riding behind my wife on her V-star...

I just swapped out my stockers with a 15/43 setup and the bike is a whole different animal! acceleration is insane! it is like adding 20hp to stock. cheap and easy mod with maximum gain.

Yep, it's a nice ratio unless you run up & down the interstate commuting like I do:( I changed the 15 back to a 16 and left the 43 and I like it mo better...RC:D

Just had my 1st ride yesterday with the new 15/43 and I have to say its perfect for the Malibu canyons! The 1st gear wheelies are too fun with this gearing as well. Now I need a speedo healer!

HawkRider98 09-08-2008 01:27 PM

15x43. I am going to 16x43or 42 when this wears out. Drop the highway rpm's.

Sablotny 09-08-2008 01:36 PM

I've been thinking about this during my first month on the bike. Have stock gearing now and its perfect for 30-60 MPH twisties in 2nd & 3rd gear. But on tighter & slower stuff I hit this gray area between 1st & 2nd I don't like. I'd like to be able to do them in 2nd. I ride the freeway in 4th of 5th, not even sure if I've used 6th gear on the bike. Figure I'll be doing a gear change when my chain wears out.

That's exaclty how I felt. Now it's 2nd gear in the tight canyons almost all the time with the 15/43. While I was on the PCH doin ~70 it felt fine to me as well. I don't think I even hit 6th gear.

motojoe 09-09-2008 12:38 PM

16/43 works for me. You can keep the stock chain size and still get a lil more pep in your step. I am on the highway half the time for most trips I take. Hardly use 6th unless I'm running 80+.

FL02SupaHawk996 09-09-2008 12:45 PM

My 16/43 puts me in the range of 5-6K rpms running interstate speeds in 6th gear, so I could use a 7th;)

side note but that reminds me of my single year commuting home to Santa Monica from the Valley on Topanga Canyon Blvd... wish I had the Superhawk back then.
