215 or so. I've seen 220 on the readout. Riding in traffic in warm weather it runs almost continuously.
Turns off at 211. |
Its all about thermal efficiency, late model Corvettes use a 35psi pressure cap and run at up to 265 degrees.
I disagree with the above post. The new Corvette runs so hot because it has to for emissions. Remember if the fuel is about to combust when it goes in the chamber more will burn with spark. Most cars will make more power by putting in a lower temp thermostat
Has anybody tried one of these... Low Temperature Fan Switch ?
Fuel must be completely vaporized in order to burn. Removing the thermostat can cause an engine in a car to run as low as 140F. This will cause a feedback fuel system to run rich. This would not affect the SH since the fuel is not computer controlled, but an overcooled engine will have "quench areas" in the combustion chamber where the flame of combustion will be extinguished. Engine wear will also increase if running to cool. Most automotive engines will run at up to 235F before the fan comes on.
Also, the pressure cap increases the boiling point of the coolant by 3 degrees F for every 1 psi of pressure that the cap is rated at. 15psi cap = 45 degrees F increase in boiling point.

thanks for the feedback guys. i still haven't heard the fan kick on yet, but i haven't seen it get over 205 still. I live in the midwest were we are finally seeing some weather in the 90's, so it shouldn't be long before it kicks on.

I thought about it once, but never heard that anybody here on the forum had done it so I didn't spend the $54.00...you gonna try it??? |
I've considered it... I'm running distilled water and Water Wetter for this season, I'll see how that goes first.
I purchased the new fan switch upgrade. have not received it yet. Will let you know how it works once It arrives.
the fan is kicking on now that it warmer and i am sitting in traffic more. thenks for the information guys!!!
This site is great, I was just about to ask the same question regarding the temp. The bike likes to run hot compared to some of my past bikes, or is it that I'm just cranking the the throttle a little bit more :D
I've had my hawk for about a month and half and it normally runs about 195-205 depending but I've seen it climb as high as 215 |
Im picking mine up tomorrow 6-30-08 Ill put in that day take a ride and let you know. To darylward hope you dont have to wait as long as I did to get yours. It took 3 weeks to recieve it.
I've seen 230s. Never really paid attention to when the fan comes on and off. Is there a max we should be looking for? What's the real advantage of the low temp switch thing?
