VTR after market plug wires
 

i know the stock spark plugs wires on the VTR are restricted, and i know there are many gains on other bikes for aftermarket plug wires. but are there any draw backs or possible problems i could have with swopping out the stock spark plug wires with aftermarket wires?

I don't see any problems with doing so but other here might disagree. You probably could make your own. Go to a speed shop and see what kind of similar wire they sell off the spool.

Restricted? You mean they have resistor caps? If you have good wires, you'll get nothing by changing them. Different wires won't add power.

As long as the OEM resister cap wires are in spec, you'll gain nothing from an after market wire. Additionally, I doubt you will find an aftermarket wire with a sealing cap, like the SH has,, Without that,, you will get crap down in the spark plug cavity in the head.. All that crap, is potential foreign object damage every time you R & R your plugs. I built a set of Coil on cap plug wires... But have not yet come up with a good way to seal them to the head.

You can swap the caps to the new wires I think. They just screw on the end of the wire. That would solve the debris issue. I think aftermarket coils is more important than wires. It doesn't seem like a common mod, apparently the stock coils are good enough to supply most mods.

For what it's worth, I replaced the resistors in mine with pieces of round steel and I noticed nothing. I put the resistors back in.

they have a cap that somewhat seals but not NEARLY as good as the original wires. i also have a Mario Nava full fairing which help alot with keep road debris off and out of the motor.

Not out of the front cylinder! The front tire kicks up a lot of crap right on the cam cover and in the crevis where the plug wire goes.
