Stock Needle jet Kit
 
Has anyone purchased a new set of needles for there hawk through honda? I am wondering if the brass piece in the carb (needle jet) comes with the needles. Your help on this would be great.

The reason I ask is that my carb needle jets, which seem to be permanent, are no longer round. This is something that we have seen before at the shop, but some carbs have replaceable needle jets. In this case it would seem that I am chasing a rack of carbs.

Yeah, I already looked at the fiche, but the needle was shown with a part, but it was be the e-clip. oh well

I have heard rumblings of this problem in some really old posts. So the emulsion tube gets worn out of round? Also I thought I remember someone coming up with a fix, but maybe I am wrong.

Well if it's just the emulsion tube that would be a easy fix but I guess I should go look at my carbs as they are sitting on the bench right now so I can know what the hell I'm talking about......lol

It's a non-replaceable part unfortunately... So getting a new pair of carbs are the only working solution... It's not that old and unknown problem... I replaced my carbs two seasons ago because of this...

As far as I could tell from digging in the archives the problem was accelerated by using aftermarket needles & jets and setting them up incorrect (or for that matter setting up any needles and jets wrong)...

Ie set them up in the span they are supposed to work and you are fine, "squish" them ie smaller gap than intended (wrong combination of needles and jet) and you get this result...

The problem with this is the needles (made from machining carbide or unobtanium) machine away at the needle jet. This is not to be confused with the emulsion tube or jet, which are not concentric do to the fact that we have down draft carbs. This is much less a problem with side draft carbs. The fuel mileage dropped off rapidly and my CO trip ended with a non-running bike. The fix, as it would seem, is either to lean it out or get new carbs. The problem now is figuring out what needles and why they are machining whatever they touch.

Oh yeah, its cheaper to buy carbs every few years than it is to buy diff needles. Get that!
