Stock clip on spacers

I saw where the Heli Bars only gives 1 1/8 rise . Not much for over 200 smackers .

Has anyone ever just had a billet piece of aluminum machined to stick under the stock clip ons ?

Maybe machine it , them tack weld it in a couple spots ?

You don't get the whopping :) 1/2 in back space towards the rider but ....

I use GenMar risers - that's what they are - a piece of aluminum with great stock fit (I bought them used on Ebay for 40$). They raise the handlebars great - however, I had one problem. The left brake fluid reservoir on the handlebar scratches against the fairing while turning. I put some washers between the mirror bolts and the fairing - that has lifted the fairing a bit. Also, I have put a small soft sack over the brake fluid container, so the fairing doesn't get scratched. Seems to work fine. Anybody else with risers had this issue? Have you modified the left fairing as a more elegant solution?

The other issue I heard of is that the front brake hose is too short with risers. When installing the right handlebar, I just pulled harder and was able to mount it back with sufficient slack in the brake hose.

I had the gen-mar risers. They didn't do much for me, so I went to the heli-bars. They made a BIG difference. The Heli-bars are not only HIGHER, they are closer to the seat. The gen mar risers only raise the bars.

There is a limit to what you can do with the bars. The Heli-bars are at that limit. If the left grip was any higher, it would hit the headlight Hi/Lo switch against the top of the fairing on full lock right turns, or it would hit the HORN button on the tank on full lock left turns. Same with the Right Grip. On Full Lock left turns, it nearly hits the "Run/Off" switch for the engine on the upper fairing for full lock left, or the "starter" button would hit the tank on full lock right turns. (I'm talking parking lot manuvers here).

Anything farther back or taller would require modification of either the gas tank, the fairing, or both.

Stock VFR risers from the late 750 and early 800s fit with a similar rise and pullback to the heli bars. pricey new but if you can find them used they work great and look perfectly stock

wow my first post

Re: Stock clip on spacers

I ordered the Heli Bars last week . Out on the hi-way I really don't need them but for around town they may be handy or on longer trips when 1/2 wore out and having to drive through towns I'm hoping they will be the ticket .

Early summer 2005 I will trailer it to Wyoming where kin folks live then off to and through the Tetons and Glacier National Parkfor two weeks .

Does Yahoo Mapit show fuel stops ??????????? :)

Re: Stock clip on spacers

I riased my stock bars 3/8" by removing the spring clip, lostening the clip-ons, positioning them to the top of the fork tube, & retightening them.
This alos allows you to change the angle of the bars becuase it raises the position 'nub' above the triple clamp slot.
Has not been a problem with any bar movement when the bar calmp is properly tightened. This adjustment improved my around town comfort without spending any $ on the Gemmar risers or Helibars.
Seems like I read about it here or another forum.
Works great. !!
Thanks to the poster that originally suggested it !!!

genmars are a waste of money .the only real way of comfort is to get raisers and renthals.https://www.superhawkforum.com/files/vtr_1000..jpg

this conversion cost me actually less than a set of genmars!!
