Stock Air Filter - Remove Backfire Screen???

I usually do this to my sportbikes to get a bit more airflow, but i know the Superhawks are pretty sensitive to air/fuel mods so I thought I would ask... Anyone remove theirs? Looks like it's just 6 plastic rivets...
