Sprint steering dampener fork mount location??
Hi Everyone!
I'm thinking of installing a Sprint steering dampener. And need to know where the fork mount sits in relation to the fork clamps, either top or bottom. the reason is I'm also installing dominator headlights and the brackets to mount them will be roughly in the same location. I just don't want to order it and find out it wont work with the headlight brackets. So yeah if anyone has this on their hawk already I'd love to hear from you. Also if they have any complaints about it. Thanks!! |
Scott's steering damper/kit. is direct bolt and go.. I just mounted an Ohlins transverse linear damper (same as your considering)
As for your question.. the mounting clamp that goes on the fork - Mounts on the right hand side of the bike/ just above the lower triple clamp. The stationary bracket that mounts with the radiator.. The clamp on the fork will help you adjust the action of the damper movement(THEN TIGHTEN DOWN/ securely) |
Thanks! Do you know how far above the lower clamp?

After I mounted the bracket behind the radiator, I mounted the clamp around the fork. Leave the clamp loose. Connect the damper in place. You then turn the front wheel to the left. Snug the clamp bolts.. What you are having to accomplsh is / give the damper free movement, with NO obstruction. then you (SLOWLY) turn the front wheel to the right. Making sure , NO obstruction of the damper movement.
Using the clamp around the front fork to fine tune the alignment of the damper.. AS long as the damper has full range of motion, with no obstruction from fairing, forks, or radiator.. That will determine the exact height of the clamp.. |
Thanks again. I'm confident I'll be able to install it correctly I just need to know how far approx it is from the lower clamp so I can determine if my aftermarket headlamp brackets will fit or need to be modified.

Awesome! I think it will fit with the headlights I plan on installing. Thanks for the info thats exactly what I needed to know.
only other comment is that you need to cut a section out of the black plastic air intake guides to stop a foul with the damper body on full lock, but that is a hidden cut and can be done with the fairing still on if you use a dremmel with a cutting disc Attachment 25131 http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/w...t/b2dfc0e0.jpg Attachment 25132 |
Perfect! Thanks for the pics that gives me a really good idea of what I'm gonna be dealing with when it arrives. The bike is gonna be naked so fairing won't be an issue :).
