Short Throw Throttle
 

It seems to me that I remember somebody using another throttle assembly for a shorter pull. Anybody remember this or know about this? Anybody using it? How well does it work?

That would be the RC45 throttle tube and yes it works very well.

There was a guy selling new 1/6 turn HRC throttles on ebay for $60. I think it should work. I had a question for him and he was quick to respond and delivered fast.

I saw those... I was wondering if that was a decent price for them??? :confused:

Don't know about the HRC set-up but the RC45 throttle tube will set you back about $10-15...

RC45=RVF750 right?

Dayum, I spent too much!

I believe the primary benefit is the ability to go from closed to WOT without readjusting your grip. Throttle control will be more critical.

I ordered the RC45(RVF750R) throttle tube for $11, thanks 8541Hawk!. I'll let you guy know how it goes.

Yup.... Bogus, at least IMO.
Fitment is very sloppy (side to side) inside the VTR's throttle housing. I marked the stock tubes twist with a mark on the grip and 3 marks on the housing (free play,closed, WOT). When I installed the new tube I aligned the grips mark with the 1st mark on the housing. The RC tube does shorten the twist... but only by a milimeter... maybe 2 at most.
Ohh well.... it was worth the money to find out. ;)

Did you order a VFR750 throttle?
I don't think they put 60 degree throttles on street bikes. The RC45 may have had one, but it was a racing homologation.

I'm interested in shortening my throttle turns as well. Did Inderocker just order the wrong part or is this mod not possible with Honda parts? Are their other companies that would make a universal assembly?

If you only shortened the throw by 1-2mm, was that really worth the effort?

it's a 5 minute job.... not too much effort involved. I have the stock throttle tube on right now... the RVF throttle tube is in a drawer of spare parts.

So did you buy the bike new? I'm just asking because it sounds like someone might have already replaced the throttle tube. All I can say is it did make a big difference on my bike. I am now able to get full throttle without the need to reposistion my grip to get there. YMMV

I bought the bike used, but the previous owner did zero mods's... he never even took off the reflectors. Besides, the RVF tube looks different than the stocker.

Agreed, I bought the RC45 throttle tube last year and ***HATED IT***. In fact, it was so bad that I removed it after less than a week. The big twin has so much low end grunt that it made parking lot maunvers very difficult. I have a 250' gravel driveway and it was a real pain just going up and down. The stock throttle tube is fine for the street, I only see a benefit for a short throw on the track. Even at that I don't think it would help much if any.

DAYUUUMMMM, I got all excited for a shorter throw, ordered an rc-51 tube(yea I know, not paying attention). Anyone tried that?
Got the rc-45 tubr on the way.

Looking at both of these rc51 and rc45- lol look the same, only the outer part that the cable rides on is a little thicker, but no visual difference in diameter(no cam like shape).
A racer budy of mine made his own. Just put a blob of jb weld on the tube, sand it down, take a drimmel and cut a small channel, and your done. May try this also.

Well Jamie, I guess you wouldn't want to ride my VTR then as my light flywheel, 2-1 exhaust, long intake runners, Yosh cams and all make it VERY sensitive to throttle input, lol Needless to say, I have developed some very fine motor skills :)

Hey MIKSTR, is you that uses the long trumpets on both carbs?

There is an HRC short throw kit on eBay right now.... a bit pricey though.

I did use the two long runners at one time but, further to some testing, I am now running a long in the back and a modded (longer by @ 15 mm) one in the front (found this to work better with the new set-up I have now; see stuff in my signature for an idea). Running two long runners on a stock or slip-on equipped engine makes a noticeable difference in low-end and mid-range IMO.
