As for balancing after lightening, no they are not. There has been no need found to do so.

I'm seriously considering a lightened flywheel. How hard is it to remove/ install? Isn't it essentially taking the cover off and unbolting the thing? I have years of mechanic experience but am tired of wrenching on this bike and don't wanna get into anything too in depth at the moment.

Super easy! Unbolt the cover, unbolt the flywheel (one nut) use the appropriate puller, reassemble with the lightened flywheel (using the supplied gasket). You will have a freer, quicker, revving bike in minutes. The best, most noticeable, bolt-on performance mod I've done. Thank You Eric.

Of course you need the tools to remove the center bolt, hold the flywheel, turn in the flywheel remover (about $10 https://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0074 ) and off pops the flywheel (if using hand tools, you may need to apply pressure with the tool and bang the end of the tool once with a hammer, the shock will break the stiction of the crank / flywheel taper) And then to reinstall, change over the sprag bearing to the new flywheel (not pressed in, held with bolts) clean the crank and flywheel oil free, install flywheel and torque center bolt to spec.
