Good job on those!

Very good. What is weight difference between OEM and billet unit, what bearings will billet unit accept/use and how is 3-pin adapter (shown in hand) rotated in order to tighten recessed top triple stem nut (i.e., how is it "gripped")?
|
thanks , the billet unit is about +80g than OEM.Original bearings and bearings like kevin schwarz will fit.the 3-pin adapter has a hole in it ...works like a lever

Really beautiful machining. A good alternative to the weak triples on the stock machines. Bravo! Good job! |

I got 924.65

Wait a minute. it just dawned on me the 3T is for the stock forks? Seems like a waste instead of for some decent USD units.

billet yoke from cyclepart-dealer costs between 800 and 1200 euro for vtr firestorm/superhawk (in europe)..

I think there a lot of opinions about the Superhawk suspension up front. From a lighter rider's standpoint a better triple could be the trick. Some people blame the neck of the bike for the flex, others the forks - the plain truth will be in your feel when you are on the bike. I have always believed that the stock triples did not have the balls to handle the stock horsepower. No doubt about it, this is really cool stuff.

For a lighter rider with a fork brace and beefy triples the stock fork should work beatifully once setup with a correct stack/valves...
The reason I decided to go with a swap was the fact that at 220 I'm not exactly "light" and while the heavier springs took care of the "vobbling all over" feeling, it didn't reduce the flexing up front that made me a bit uncomfortable leaned over... And a good pair of billet triples is more than twice as expensive as my whole swap... Plus I got a lot of cool knobs to fiddle with...:D |
I'm about five pounds off my target weight of 165. Greg did my forks and I have a Penske in the rear. I still feel this worminess up front and I think it's the triples flexing in the neck of the frame. For me there is value in being able to use all the stock-fitting parts that I can rather than doing a transplant. I have Helibars, grips, some investment in the stock forks so installing a better set of triples is an important upgrade. I don't have the coin to do it right now but these are beautiful and a significant upgrade to the stock parts in my opinion.
