Ride height spacer - Who makes em?
 

I had the front done, and can't quite afford the rear yet. The money i have saved for further mods are going to a new tire and brake pads/ss lines first.

After doing the racetech internals in front, the rear ride height seems low. I'm a 300 lb rider w/o gear, and the front is sprung appropriately.

So, my question is: does anyone make spacers? I have seen drawings and stuff, but I have no facilities to make these myself.

What sizes have people had success with in my weight range? I'm running 1.0kg/mm springs i believe.

I think everyone pretty much made their own however there may be an odd one laying around in someone's garage. Manufacturing them isn't that big of a deal as you could cut out the aluminum with a scroll or jig saw and metal type blade. You could also use a hole saw then there would be a lot less trimming.

Take a piece of aluminum 5-6mm thick and cut out a slot that will fit between the shock upper mount. See all info @ http://folk.uio.no/joakimt/vtr/specs.html
The 5mm rear spacer will raise the back end much more than more than 5-6mm due to the linkage. I might be off but I think it is near 3:1 ratio. I'm sure someone on the forum can correct me!
I would also suggest raising the front forks 5-10mm in the triples. Experiment as to how quick you want the bike to turn in. Adjust your rear ride height for approximately 25mm rear sag with you on board and you are reading to go.

This guy who did the front suspension (and he has a ton of experience doing it, both for Race Tech themselves, as well as for several teams) suggested washers also... is that feasible on this bike?

Washers are fine. They just require a little more work to get on than a slotted hunk of metal. With the slot you just loosen the top nut on the shock, slide in you spacer, then retighten.

Well then I think ill start by taking it to my buddy for shimming,until I can afford the jd shock. My discretionary budget right now is earmarked for a back protector, new rear tire, and brake upgrades.

You know what. I'll sell you my homemade spacer if you want. Jaime is currently working on a shock for me with an extra 6mm worked into it. And there's a foot of snow here so I'm not gonna be riding anytime soon. You can have it for whatever shipping costs. Probably less than $5 if you're in the U.S. I'll go pull it out right now and take some pics.

This is made out of some sort of steel. I just cut it out with a grinder from a piece of an old trailer. I added some small, shallow grooves for "texture." Which probably does nothing, but it looks kinda cool. It did it's job just fine for me for about three years.

There's a guy on ebay selling a converted f4i shock for cheap bit when THE superchicken forum recommends someone else, you don't ignore em. Haven't heard of this guy.

How does one install that? Is there a picture thread that the search button isn't showing me

They come & go, buy it now price 5.50 pound. Search for shock spacer. They make them for other bikes to.

Buy large 10mm flat washers and cut one side open to allow it to slide onto the bolt. Loosen the upper shock bolt nut, lift bike slightly onto side stand and slide the washer(s) in. Total cost: @ $1.00. Total time: how good are you with a hack saw? How much height do you need: adjust with number of washers

I figured it out. It can be done a roundabout way but not the easy way just to the left. WTF?
