replacing valve stems

With the tire swap coming up I am also going to replace the valve stems. I was intending to replace them with some thing more permanent and reliable... ie not the OE rubber ones. Any recommendations? specific size? Alum vs steel? Those that tighten from the inside vs outside?
Thanks

What's wrong with rubber valve stems? I've had new aluminum valve stems leak... but I've never had that happen with a new rubber valve stem

The ones that get tightened in are now where near as reliable as a good old fashioned rubber one. They tend to losen up and leak at the worst possible time, like on a long ride in the middle of nowhere. Stick with whats known to work.

I have had similar experience. I would use the shortest rubber stem that allows good access for air. And replace them at each tire change. The longer, heavier (metal), or right angled ones, for me at least have not been a positive. I don't know if its the heavier weight and all the forces on the stem over time that promote flexing and loosening, but it seems to happen.

I installed some of the snazzy angled aluminum Ariete ones from Kurvey Girl....
