RC51 exhaust on a Superhawk?

Will it work? I'm talkin' aftermarket slip-ons, not stock.
Taking the mid-pipes out of the picture (unless they fit too), I'm wondering if just the canisters from an RC51 will work on the Superhawk

Thats what Superbling runs if im not mistaken. Stock RC51 cans.

Of course they will work, anything will if you spend enough time and throw enough money at it!

If you mean, do they bolt on? No. SuperHawk pipe's OD is smaller than the RC while the mid mounting points (footpegs) are close but different enough to require modding. The upper mounts are not even close.

HTH.

Hate to sound like a dumbass, but what's "OD"?
And I'm looking at aftermarket (Venom carbon fiber in particular), so I'm guessing the muffler clamp can slide up/down the can as necessary to meet the mounting hole on the rear pegs.
What I would do is use Mircon midpipes since they're undamaged from the crash, and replace the cans only.
So I guess my real question is, if the Micron's midpipes fit into the new canisters, is there anything wrong with using canisters meant for the RC51?

Outside Diameter?? Sounds like the RC 51 pipes are bigger

Yes, OD means outer diameter.

I was referring to stock items being different sizes. I'd suggest measuring the micron mid-pipes OD and contacting venom to see if theirs will slip on. If either is a bolt on type mating, it may become more involved.

I made up a set of D&D CF pipes for my Vtec VFR. D&D doesn't make a set for the latest generation. These were the bolt on type and I found out that a standard auto header collector matched up to the bolt spacing. Had a muffler shop bend my a new mid-pipe and weld on the collector end which the D&D bolted to. The left side was a dummy.

Very nice bike and... very nice job!!!!

Seem that we have a muffler specialist!! :D

It's VFR original color? I never see that VFR color here in Canada! The "creamy" white with the red stripes looks awesome!!

Thanks!

No, that's not an original color or graphics treatment. I did them both myself in the garage. I couldn't/wouldn't spend $200 for a tapeworks kit so I went to a local graphics shop, bought some bulk tape, and cut the wings myself.

I'd like to do something similar to the superHawk but there's really not enough fairing to do it right, IMO.

Wow you have two beautiful bikes. Got anyting else up your sleeve?

Which one do you like better? Apples and oranges deal eh?

Re: RC51 exhaust on a Superhawk?

No, I sold the VFR over a year ago when I needed some quick cash. I bought the bandit on a whim and quickly regretted it (IL4's just don't do it for me anymore). So when I knew I just had to get something else, it didn't take long to decide on another superhawk.

Since getting this second VTR, I've modded it to mirror a VFR (better suspension, larger tank, higher bars, lower pegs, real mirrors and quieter pipes). If only I could add a centerstand.... :)

I've basically built what the VFR world has been asking for: 1000cc's with more torque and lighter weight. What I don't have is the "exotic-ness" of SSS, gear drive (older VFR's), FI and full fairings but then again I didn't pay anywhere near the price either!

What did you use for higher bars on the VTR? Heli bars or VFR bars?

So what mirrors did you finally end up using?

superbling 05-28-2005 10:06 PM

Re: RC51 exhaust on a Superhawk?

I was using 95VFR bars which were about as high as you can get without cutting fairing but after doing a 1600 mile long weekend I decided I also wanted them a tad further back too. So, I just converted to superbike bars today and had to cut the uppers (yikes!).

For the mirrors, I went from stock to r1's and finally to FZ1's on stock bases. My superbike handle bar is 27 inches wide (which I'm going to trim) and these stick out about an inch further. Absolutely no rear view problems now!

Some pictures of your bar and mirror set up would be great!
