rc51 calipers with stock rotor
So i mounted the rc51 calipers but taking a look at the seating of the pads they appear to be a bit oversized for the rotors. The pad sits very near the inner limit of the rotor and on the outer limit the pad seems to extend slightly over the beveled edge of the rotor..... The pads in there right now are ebc's, anyone have any suggestion for other pads that might be a little bit smaller or if this is even a concern?
THanks. |
I find this a bit odd. I ran SP-2 calipers on my VTR (with HRC hard bite pads) and had no problems. The only thing is the calipers needed a slight bit of grinding to fit the stock VTR fork lowers......

yes I had to grind them too but when I looked at the calipers mounted and where the pads sat against the rotors it appears that the pads seem just a bit oversized compared to the rotors...

It's because they are meant for the RC's larger rotors... So yes, you are right... And no, it doesn't matter in the least... The part extending over the edge, will just turn into brakedust, and the inner edge you are referring too, i guess you are talking about where the stock pad has worn an edge... That's not really supposed to be there... That starts out flat...

You could just cut off the portion of pad material that overhangs.

good, no worries then. thanks!

My brother likes DP. I did a google search and supposedly they are smaller than the EBC pads, with better feel. I'm going to try some in my 51 calipers.

Pretty much my first thoughts too, just take a stone mounted in a hand drill or use a bench grinder and have at 'em. |
lol, I just purchased a set of DP pads instead of the EBC, I also read that they are a bit smaller I'll take pics when they get here.

Ok so I got the DP pads in the RC calipers and mounted to the hawk yesterday. ... I forgot to take pics but I did compared the sizes. The DP pad surface is the same length but the height is about 3mm less so there is better fit to the hawks stock rotors.
I ended up cleaning the rotors with a drill mounted wire wheel and then sanding over it by hand. For some reason about .5km into my ride after the pads managed to put a deep gouge in to the rotor surface on one of the discs, perhaps there was a particle/debris in there or something.... kind of sucks |
