rc51 brake question...
i am finally getting my whole setup put onto my bike today and i got it all routed... and the brake lines are too short?! anyone with the RC conversion what did you do? aftermarket lines arent in the budget right now but eventually will be, do i just swap out the SH lines and fit them to the calipers and MC? i feel as if that would be the easiest answer... or is it because my bike is jacked up and non bearing that they are too short?
HELP! i am free all day (gf at BRC) and wanna wrench a bit! |
ANYONE?!?!

Not sure what to tell you..... I had a set of aftermarket lines already when i did the swap.
So where are the lines you are trying to use too short at? It does seem strange that the old lines don't work for you.... |

It does seem strange that the old lines don't work for you.... with the calipers just hanging down they are about an inch and a half short... they wont line up with the mounting bolts and the stock "splitter" is an inch higher than it should be... it seems like the cheapest aftermarket lines are like 60+ dollars... maybe i can afford them |
Are you using the RC lines or your stock VTR lines? Sorry, it just sounds a little confusing.
If you AREN'T using the VTR lines, I'd go ahead and try them. |

I'd use whatever set is long enough. Just change the crush washers. I'm surprised that there's that big of a difference between the RCs and the VTRs, to be honest. I had aftermarket lines on my bike when I installed the RC-51 calipers, but they worked fine on both the stock brakes and the upgrades. Are you sure you didn't switch lines at the splitter or something?

deffinetly just tried putting them on after the came in the mail, it looks all stock. could it be because the bike is on a jack? the line that goes from the MC to the splitter looks to me to be an inch shorter |

this shows how far off it is.. i have the MC in the right position to make it comfy to brake. i guess i will just have to switch the lines out |
The RC51 lines will be too short as the clip ons mount below the triple.
Put the VTR lines on there and order lines for a VTR when you get around to doing that..... ;) |
no. I took the front setup off my rc51(because it's crashed and sitting till I fix it) and they were WAY shorter then what the sh needs. RC length will not work on sh. use the stock sh or use some aft mkt sh lines.

Yeah if I remember correctly the RC51 lines are shorter. Just use the superhawk lines and as was said already when you order aftermarket lines make sure to order lines for the superhawk. You should only need to order custom (longer) lines if you do a front end swap and also mount radial calipers, or mount superbike bars.

Again not that you need them just an fyi, ordering custom length lines is no big deal, they were only a few bucks more when I ordered them from Galfer. I just made sure to measure and remeasure about 10 times ;)
