random airbox question

Random question just out of curiosity an have no idea wat I would search it under.
What would happen if you could run a pipe from each carb out the front of the bike an put a filter on the end of it an get forced direct air flow into each carb? I'm sure its bein thought of but I didn't know wat to look for.

Well there is the potential for more top end power but with massive tuning problems in the lower RPM range. Some of the Moriwaki race bike used ram air but for the street your best bet is to leave the air box alone.

Thanx 8541hawk pretty much wat I was wondering. Just one of those random thoughts that came to mind lol you know the ones when you have to have an answer for but you dnt plan on ever really doing anything with it lol (yeah I'm kinda manic like that)

In the last couple of years the major manufacturers used a snorkle to ram-air the airbox, but they also had to provide the same pressure to the float bowls otherwise an imbalance resulted.

In the sixties some of the muscle cars had ram-air cowl induction. In all of the applications that I read about the gains were realized at the top end of the rpm band. Race territory. Mostly superseded by the overall flexibility of fuel injection.

In street riding the gain is all in the parking lot during bike night, the 'gee-whiz' factor, looking at what the other guy did different from you. I love bike night. Variety is the spice of life and the constantly shifting modifications of motorcycles never gets boring for me. Ram-air? There's a guy near here that set up a stripper Goldwing with a supercharger on it. What a hoot to watch him depart locked onto the rear wheels of the sporty boys.
