Q: looking into fitting the engine of an RC51 into my Superhawk
 

i'm seeing if anyone here has done it before, if it's even possible and what kind of work am I looking at.

dont think so man, even if you could, it would be almost more work than itd be worth me thinks. im sure others will chime in though

the engine, while perhaps a tiny bit weak, is the least of the weak links on the superhawk. you are perhaps tossing one of its single best virtue and keeping the rest!

what is your motivation or thinking behind it?

Anything is possible with a welder and a measuring tape...or just alot of money. The fact that it's probably never been done should tell you something. Not that it CANT but it's obviously a project for sure. Welcome aboard. Pretty ambitious for your first post ;)

I think we're approaching this all wrong. Instead of going uphill I wonder if anyone has tried coasting downhill and just put some superhawk fairings on an rc51.

Where is the swingarm going to attach?

seroiusly, get a RC51 and be done with it, lol! saw one for $3600 recently in a local "trader" rag...

The first part you need to replace is the frame... Not one point of it matches up, not engine mounts, nor the shape, width or lenght... And like indie said, the mounting point for the swingarm is missing... I'd say you will have about the same chance of getting a V8 in there...

I GOT IT! FIRST - replace the frame with one from an RC51!
then the engine should plop right in.
while at it, do the rc51 front end swap (search this forum for how to).
then since you are at it, buy a custom swingarm - no, wait, just modifiy the SP2 arm (search for a link). That should about do it. Then put in custom oil.
I would keep the SH shock and wheels though. And fairing, though it will take some modding to fit now.

It's cheaper to get a RC51.

I should pick up a rc51 frame and engine for my motard project.
I've got the forks, don't need the fairings, could steal someone's swing arm, and bam.

Agree with LineArray & Just_Nick; should just get the RC51 instead. Or, straight to RC8!

A rc8 costs a good deal more than a used RC51. I found a rc51 for 3500.

Gear driven cam noise is what he wants. Maybe he doesn't need the 51 engine. Let's think outside the box here.

Simply disassemble a good Hawk engine and take a file to most of the gears, to the point that when assembled they make some gear noise.
By the time it actually fails or becomes a problem the bike will probably be with the next owner or the one after that. Honda engines are tough. Enjoy!

Next up for modification, I want my bike to sound like a ducati with a dry clutch I was wondering if anyone has tried to swap out a Superhawk clutch with a Ducati. They are both V-twins. Maybe plug up the oil passages and add a couple of brackets or something.
