Penske shock/sidestand question
 

So I just put a penske shock on. I have the ride ht dialed pretty much all the way up. Now the sidestand is nowhere near long enuff. Even before with the shock shimmed it would tilt alot but now its on its ear!

Does anyone else have this problem? Do I have to lower both ends? Or do I just need a plate to move the stand lower?

I have a similar problem (due to shimming of rear). Unfortunately, I have looked extensively for a longer stand but to no avail. All the adjustable ones only go shorter....

I bought a Jamie Daugherty modified rear cbr600F4 piece and he redid my valves on my front shock and added progressive rate springs. After re-setting the sag post installation, the rear end came up substantially. Now I have to use a !" pine block under the side-stand and it still a pretty good lean. Seems like correcting the rear suspension also means raising up the rear end of the bike! I'm sure lots of folks could use a solution if you find one! Good luck.

dude how much did you lengthen the shock over stock eye-to-eye length? I raised mine about 8mm if I recall (penske shock) and no problem. do you also have a higher profile tire? Or is it possible the side stand mount is bent? I don't think you should have problems - I don't know where the front of my bike is relative to stock anymore - its quite possilbe that it is lower than stock (its a rc51 front end) but I thought I tried to put it to stock height after I replaced.

I have the same problem after new front and rear suspension.
The front is higher, as well as the rear.
I have read about a few people that added material to the bottom of the stand.
Hopefully someone can come up with an easy, aesthetically pleasing solution.

I don't know how much you need, but I need somewhere between 3/4 and 1 inch (probably closer to 1).

Yeah that is pretty much what mine looks like. I can only park on a hill. I have been parking on a 2x3.

Easy fix: lower the front! The shock on my bike is +10-12mm and it sits just fine on the side stand. That said, it leans over a tad more than I would like too. Depending on the front end you are running you can lower the front a bit which will help. I've thought about welding on a plate under the side stand foot but it's never really been an issue so I've not worried about it.

OK Jamie so how much fork above the triple/ whats the distance lower triple to axle. I have stock forks on this bike & figure with the high rear that lowering the fron would turn it on its nose.

I raised the forks 10mm with no worries and the back is shimmed 7mm. For piece of mind, I always carry around a small side stand puck to support the load of the bike so it doesn't dig into the ground or pavement. I never worry about the lean.

Yeah but my issue is that I dont know how much shows above the triples in stock form.

There is a groove around the forkleg where a "lock ring" is supposed to sit... That ring sits above the clip-on in stock configuration... Starting from that point should make it easy to figure out...

Tweety, yes if I had stock clip ons but I have helibars which I believe are larger.

Then you just need the measurement of the stock clip-on clamp... I'll measure next time I'm in the shop...

OK so I solved the problem by hacking some steel plates and drilling them and putting spacers. Here is a pic but it was alot of work with hand tool so I cant mass produce them.
The bike leans the exact right amount now so all is well.

Yeah but I think that they only adjust shorter not longer, thus my afternoon of cutting and grinding.

Yes substantially. I was worried about tipover before but not now. I wish I would've taken before and after pics but its too much work to swap back just for the pic

looks good! Do you notice the stand wanting to move around at all while riding?

I was thinking more along the lines of having a friend add some material to the bottom of the stand by welding it.
I have seen on another website, a member drilled 2 holes in the part that contacts the ground and added metal there and countersunk 2 screws from the bottom of the stand through the original piece and the new material.

Oh, that lean angle. It seems pretty tucked up in there since it kind of goes strait down about 1" or so. Hope to not find out but I would go on the track with this stand anyway.

Well, my side stand is now the perfect height and the lean angle is back to normal. I needed 1/2" of length added to it.
I have a friend from work who is an unbelievable welder hook me up.
I brought him my stand and the stand from my parts bike.

I added my Jamie D F4 shock and now need to modify the sidestand as well...no biggie, just wondering if extending the shock 1" or 1 1/4" if it will make contact with the chain. Eye balled it last night and that seems to be my only concern. Anyone ??

See, this is a waste of resources. I posted pics of my mod in this very thread. I quick look would help you visualize that the stand isn't near the chain. Take a look, if you get around to it. (or do a search)
