New pipes for my birdy?
First off i really want to get new exhaust for my bird and i have heard a lot of good things about the two brothers pipes. also the jardine, if i could get some opinions and reasons for those opinions i would much appriciate it. im new to the forums and relatively new to 2 wheelin it compared to a lot of u folk. I started off riding my buddys 98 hawk and loved it so i bought a cherry 2000 with only 7500 miles on it, never down, immaculate! i love it but i want more power! wut would be the first thing u would do, is there a power commander type unit available? pipes? k+n? i already have the pilot powers they came on the bike when i bought it with 5 miles on the tires. Im almost thinking about selling it and buying a 'busa so that me and my girl can hope on and cruze a little more comfortably. help me please, and thank you:confused:

Clip ons refer to what your grips are installed on. The "clip-on" to the forks, either above the triple or below.

Welcome! I'd say most any after market full exhaust system with proper re-jetting of the carbs will get you some nice additional ponies and torque...you can find many on utube and listen for one that sounds best to you. Your thinking is correct but you can't use a power commander on carbs...it's for fuel injected bikes only;)
Also, if you plan on riding fast, but not worried about losing a little top end speed go with a change to your front and rear sprocket setup. Stock is 16/41, but a change to 15/43 will blow you away! You can use the chain you already have...the fit is good. This will change your speedo reading so it will be off, but to correct it use the Speedohealer. Also, easy to install, if you're mechanically inclined:) |

I gotta' agree w/ Blue Ridge - if you're new to two wheelin' a 'Busa could kill you. Hell a Hawk could do it too. But if you're gonna' do pipes, I've got the Two Bros. (used to run them on my VFR's too..), and they make that bike sound mean. I also went with the Dynojet kit, K&N air filter, got rid of the snorkel, and did a few gearing changes, as per a few guys on this forum's recommendations. I'd advise getting used to the bike before you start tweaking it though. Anyways, welcome to the forum and have fun...

Well as for how new am i, i started riding fourwheelers about 10 years ago and learned on the fasted production machine ever available, and it was tricked out, suzuki quadzilla. also rode a 2000 cr125 with all the bells and whistles it would pull right out of yur hands at 1/4 throttle. then i started riding a 1998 honda vtr about 3 years ago, i rode it through the winter and into the spring. rode it ocasionaly until i got my vtr and i have been riding it everyday for the last 8 months with only a day or 2 of to drive the trucks. its got pilots and i lost my chicken strips comfortably about 6 months ago. i also took the washington state motorcycle safety course which doesnt really grant me any respect but i developed some very usefull reflexes. so im not really that much of an amatuar. but im not nearly as experienced as most of u folk and i have pushed the bike really far and i am very comfortable with it so im thinking wider rear pilot power and some more ponies for fun!! thanks for the help and replies!!

Get some Leo Vince or Devil high mounts and you'll be very happy. And FWIW, a wider rear tire will only slow your steering response. The VTR does not make the power to warrant any tire wider than 180.

i was going to get jardines until the guys at my local honda shop said the fit and finish on them were not as good as TBR.

I've heard that the high mounts delete the passenger pegs. Is this true? I love the look of the high mounts....keeping an eye out for an affordable used set. But want to keep my passenger pegs. |

Use spacers and you can still keep your passenger pegs

I have the Jardines on my bike. They sound amazing. They have a nice rumble to them, not overly loud, but will make people notice you. I have 2 videos on youtube, both showing the exhaust off. Ch-ch-ch-check it.

I dunno. We got this Texas thing goin' on and they are just up the street.
D&D - Ft.Worth Texas. I think I'm gonna keep my Jardine high-mount midpipes and hang D&D off the back. I just love the way the Interceptor sounds with the D&D that I got from a member here. It's way radical when you get into it but just a good cruise otherwise. |
Love my Staintune Hi-Mounts. They sound great and look great. Finish is excellent.
