My First Brake Mod
 

So I bought RC51 calipers and Russell SS Lines. I hope this fixes the mushy feel of the front.

Anyone have any tips on the install. I saw the necessary grinding of the Caliper, but other than that is there anything else?

I would recommend buying the RC51 master cylinder and brake lever as the RC51 piston is larger than the SH. Read this thread to understand what I am referring to, https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=13176

Do a search and find the thread which show where and the best way how to grind the extra material off the caliper. Take your time grinding.

get a mity-vac to bleed the lines, and as always... i recommend Vesrah RJL pads.

You'll need another master-cylinder to go with the RC51 calipers. It will be even mushier that stock with the VTR master/RC51 Caliper combo. I'd recommend a nice radial unit off a CBR1000RR.

Are they SP-1 or SP-2 calipers (SP-2 has smaller pistons)? In either case, mated to the stock VTR MC, it will create a lot of stopping force (smaller diameter MC piston increases line pressure, hence amount of force exerted on pads) but at teh cost of increased lever travel.

Having gone through various brake mod iterations myself, I heartily recommend getting a radial MC (and decent pads of course). Then hang on!!!!!!!!

The calipers are off an 01 RC. I bought Russell Lines for a Superhawk to mate to the calipers and stock MC. I figure I would see how it feels with the stock MC. If it needs more I can easily get a RC MC or similar.

If you`re going to fork out money for a MC, get a radial, trust me!

01 is an SP-1 so calipers are the same as the F4i, 929, 98-99 900RR (I have the latter). They have larger pistons which means they can deliver more pressure (the pressure delivered being equal to line pressure times surface area). However, the lever travel may be excessive...

So I got my RC calipers today and got them on....

Took about 30 minutes to grind the first one and about 3 minutes on the second...

I used a dremel and took some off, test fitted, then grinded some more....

Now I am waiting on My 954 Master Cylinder and I will be good to go.

So to wrap I got 954 MC to Russell stainless lines finally hooked to RC Calipers... As for pads I went with EBC FA265HH.

If anyone is thinking of doing this mod, go for it... Total it should take about 2 hours with bleeding and 125 dollars...!
