Larger Fuel Tank please!

I have seen a number of Euro spec that say the Fireblade (superhawk to us) has a much larger fuel tank. Does any one know of any way to accuire one of these? I have ask all of my local shops and import companys and they cant give me any new info.

MisterMohawk 10-08-2006 01:29 PM

I think the post-2001 tanks are larger than pre-01. I've not heard anything about foreign bikes having larger tanks than domestic.

bluesman 10-08-2006 02:33 PM

Yes. Firestorm (not Fireblade) as of 2001+ in Europe comes with 19 liters tank. That's 3 liters more.
I bought one off ebay and replaced my original 16 liter tank.
If you will plan to do it - you will also need post-2001 Euro fuel tap, 2 fuel lines and 10 cm longer vacuum pipe.

In case that was not clear. (I thought it was) ONLY the non US Firestorm's got the larger tank.. The US SuperHawk did not. in any year.

MisterMohawk 10-08-2006 02:56 PM

Honda USA hates us.

Ogre8472 10-08-2006 03:16 PM

Okay...Ebay eh...but why them and not us...dont we deserve a large tank like everyone else. I mean 4.25 us gallons is not bad but at 19 litters that a 5 gallon tank. Who wouldnt want that?

Because we pay 1.5 Euro per liter of 95 petrol! ;) That's 1.89 USD per liter or 7.15 USD per gallon :(

Ogre8472 10-09-2006 01:12 PM

but but but....i want it now....Nah jk...It still does not seem fair though. WE get the short end of the stick on a lot more than fuel tanks. If you live in CA most would know that there are 49 state bike then theirs Ca and...what gives there? But not just ca...the german spec cars well euro for that matter as well as jap spec is a completely different machine...Why?

marmaladedad 10-09-2006 01:32 PM

WRT CA vs 49-state, that is, if I'm not mistaken, no longer the case.

Ehhh????are you talking about the c.a.r.b. issue? cause all i know is that ca has a smaller tank on vrf cbr st and thoes guys...but why?

marmaladedad 10-09-2006 07:35 PM

The newer bikes that Honda (and the other manufacturers) is putting out do not differentiate between the CA and non-CA bikes anymore.

Ogre8472 10-10-2006 09:21 AM

REALLY....WOW....now we are getting somewhere.....But we still have to put up with that heavy charcole canister and evap system...But back to the tank thing...I have been looking on ebay and all that I have seen is beatup us spec tanks....I do believe you that there there i guess im just not that lucky to find one.

shayne 10-10-2006 02:33 PM

Chances of you finding one in the US are very low I reckon. I would start looking at other countries if you are really keen. You will pay for it in freight though. They are very popular here when they come up for sale and sell very quickly. I looked for ages before I gave up and bought a new one for $1300 AUD approx with the fuel tap and lines.

Radiaoktiv 10-10-2006 03:29 PM

your chances would be 100% better on Ebay UK

There is a different ebay for the uk? but doesnt that world search work too?

MisterMohawk 10-10-2006 04:41 PM

Look on OZFirestorm.com and VTR1000.org. Members of those forums might ship overseas. I've looked at Ebay UK and have found only rare occasions that parts ship overseas. If you do find a tank abroad just be prepared to pay rediculous shipping costs.

RedHotFireStorm 10-10-2006 05:27 PM

When searching for my Fire Storm this spring, another bike for sale had the 19 litre tank on it. The owner bought and installed it because he liked touring. "apparently" it made a huge difference...greatly reducing the "oh crap, I thought there was a gas station in this town" feeling.
By the way, I recently gained fuel mileage big time (~10 miles/tank hwy) by replacing my filthy air filter. I had to push my previous bike 2.5 miles for gas several years back...wonder if the air filter was dirty ???
A 19 litre euro spec tank sounds real good to me.
I wonder if the bike / euro tank colours would match ???

superbling 10-10-2006 07:58 PM

I can't believe marmy hasn't told you (ya'll) what he has sitting in a box.......

Ogre8472 10-10-2006 08:09 PM

prey tell...whats in the box? Is it some slimy gross and covered in muck?(at least i think thats how the line goes) extra points if anyone knows from where.

3D02 10-10-2006 08:13 PM

Also be aware of the exchange rate. As of right now $1 = .79 Euros ...roughly. Oh and taxes out the a___.

Ogre8472 10-10-2006 08:16 PM

I been watching the exchange and yeah its brutal......but whats in this box?

MisterMohawk 10-10-2006 08:27 PM

I've already bought what was in that box.

MisterMohawk 10-10-2006 08:31 PM

THIS is what was in that box: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ht=interceptor

marmaladedad 10-10-2006 08:50 PM

LoL...I didn't know if it was in my right to mention it, since it's now Mr.Mohawk's.

Superbling has a modified VFR800 gas tank that he sold to me awhile back. The gas tank holds approximately 5 gallons, which definitely makes the limiting factor on long rides your bladder (or glutes). Unfortunately, I never had a chance to test it out since I was sideswiped by a pickup truck a few weeks ago, and then sold the bike.

I couldn't wait to do my first 100+ mile trip on the bike once I had the tank on (before, I was getting 90mpt).

If you want to keep your bike for a while, get a carbon fiber gas tank.

I decided that I am keeping mine for a long time so I got a 23 liter Carbon fiber gas tank. I get 300 Km in the city and 350 on the highway.

Look around on the net, there were people still making them a few years ago.

Here are pics

There is a top view of my tank here

Think you might struggle to find the later 19l tank on ebay uk as il live there and have looked unsuccesfully for over a year.
The later uk bike with the bigger tank also had raised clipons (black instead of silver and just as rare ) improved forks (different valving and springs i think)
and a different clocks.
There just doesnt seem to be many later bikes being broken up.

Ogre8472 10-11-2006 09:24 AM

Now you guys are just breaking my heart....I guess i could bit the bullet and buy a $1200 carbon tank. But what does a euro tank go for? It not like I....hey....they guy that live there....could you...please find out what a new replacement tank goes for?
