Ignition advancer

Has anyone installed an ignition advancer? If so did you notice it much? Thanks

I don't have one installed, but if you do a web search, someone has a "DIY" on how to do the install with pics. It is fairly involved, so If you're not mechanicaly inclined, consider having a mechanic do it for ya.

I'll dig around and see if I can come up with the link/document. I think I may have downloaded it.

I have. Make sure and bolt the quieting gear to the drive gear before you take the bolt off to replace the advancer. If you don't, you will have to disassemble the entire clutch to put it all back together. Don't forget to order the right side engine cover gasket.

Re: Ignition advancer

In 2001 the Super Hawks received a more agressive ignition advance curve eletronically .

These advance kits will have more total advance at WOT and an engine with one installed will have less total output than one without in the upper RPM's.

My opinion is to save the money for something else if you have a 2001 and up SH because when alls set right the throttle response on these are as sharp as I've ever seen from a factory bike .

I ditto HawkRider's comment, but i might add that you can go ahead and pull the clutch and put the Factory Pro shift kit while installing the Factory pro Advancer

I fitted a 4 degree factory one and it did make a little difference.

However it made my rear cylinder run a little hot so when I sold the bike I was in no hurry to remove it to transplant it to my new VTR.

Possibly worth it should you run a modified exhaust and tuned engine otherwise...possibly not!

I found it made quite a difference in throttle response - made the bike noticably less snatchy. It made a very small amount of difference in fuel economy and nothing noticable in performance. Worth it in my mind for the better throttle response alone.

I have the 4 degree advancer and noticed quite a bit of throttle response also.
