Hossack conversion.
So, anyone have any advice on what kind of shock I should use?
I figured I should use the same stuff back and front. So either I use the stock shock infront, or I get a new pair for both. Or am I totally out of my mind? Quick note, it's a school project and I'm building it frame-up. |
So something like this: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=16235
I don't know why you'd want the exact same shock on both ends, the weight isn't exactly 50/50, and the loads put on each end are different.. Plus the VTR shock in stock form isn't that great. |
Well, because it's cheap.

True, but so are F4i (and other) shocks that offer more adjust-ability

Something shorter than a SuperHawk shock would be easier to fabricate around. Here's a few links you might find useful: Tony Foale's site: http://www.tonyfoale.com/ Tony knows FFEs! Michael Moore's site: http://eurospares.com/ A very active FFE/chassis fabrication mailing list. Works Performance application guide...this list has the OAL of all the various shocks by make and model: http://www.worksperformance.com/pdf/...ide/street.pdf Good luck with your project, and post up pics as your build progresses. Just checked yahoo auctions japan, not that very many and quite expensive. May have to resort to ebay. |
On eBay the f4i shocks go for ~$50... More than that and you are cheating yourself...

I just spent the past few hours going through that 5 pages of discussion that tweety and JD and others had about the OEM showa and I just had to ask, wouldn't it be simpler to attach a mount onto the frame to lower the mounting point of the shock rather than disassemble the shock and fabbing a new clevis?
Maybe I should've asked over there but didn't want to pull up a year old thread. I'm asking because since I'm building the frame and swingarm, I could just lower the mounting point to fit the cbr shock. If so, I could just use a shock off a cbr 1000, may have to check if the spring rate matches. |
Cool project, good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

But didn't you also had your clevis redone?
The red knob parts. |
Nope... My CBR F4i shock is re-worked on the inside but stock on the outside...
|
|
Great, that means I can use the shock in the firestorm chassis once my project is over!
|
Um... the spring rate might be a bit on the soft side but yeah...
