Gixxer 750 front end swap?

Hey I thought I was on here somewhere before, that soem used a gixxer 1000 front end on thier vtr. I have a front end off a 05 gixxer 750 that I can get for cheap and it's practicly new. ( ahhh kids with too much mony and no brians the bike lowsided into a rock wall and the engine and front end were teh only parts left) So can this be done any suggestions on what to do?

Hawkrider Dec 11, 2006 09:41 PM

Anything can be done if you have the tools, the knowledge, and the time to put into it. If you can get the whole front end, wheel, clip-ons, controls, brakes, everything then it'll be a lot easier than trying to piece/part it together. Use the GSXR1000 thread as a starting point and work your way through the minor differences. Be prepared as some machining/designing of new parts may have to take place.

I guess I could always grab some 954 triples and clamp the suzuki shocks on?

windaddiction Dec 14, 2006 06:01 PM

So I have the bike torn down, going to bring it to the shop next week and get started on it. there is a cahnce i can use the suzuki triple with minor mods, however looks liek the forks will fit in a 929 triples if all else fails!

superhawk22 Dec 14, 2006 06:24 PM

I'm the one with the GSXR1000 forks. The easiest way to get everything to fit is to use 954/929 triples to have the right bearings,(use the tapered race bearings for the 929), and have the vtr ignition fit. Then use all the GSXR parts for the rest, brakes, wheel, axle etc....

windaddiction Dec 14, 2006 07:27 PM

awesome! how do you liek it with the gsxr forks? I cant wait my forks are hooped, the've been throguh a head on and straigntend so this should help lots!, you mind posting a pic of your front end?

windaddiction Dec 14, 2006 08:13 PM

any idea where I can get a used 929 triple and how much should I look at spending?

Ebay is your friend and you could spend anywhere from $50-200. If you do a search for 929 conversion I think was the thread I have some pictures on that and maybe others as well. I'll try to put a link up later. Here's some from a distance, the one with the yellow wheel was before I changed the wheel, rotors and calipers.

well step one is done.... man it was so close to working with the gixxer triples.... the streering stem is 4mm to wide to be able to use the vtr bearings..... well guess I better start calling aroudn for 929 triples!

superhawk22 Dec 19, 2006 06:20 PM

Ebay is your friend!

windaddiction Dec 19, 2006 06:27 PM

superhawk22 Dec 19, 2006 06:42 PM

It's not like you're riding tomorrow though, right? Keep your eyes on it, I only say that because the places around here wanted a LOT more than I ended up paying for mine.

Here's a chrome upper.

Hey Mike, it that your bike in the back on the left in the first picture? The little one on the left...you said with the yellow wheel right? :) :) By the way, how are you feeling?

superhawk22 Dec 19, 2006 07:59 PM

 Yeah that's my track bike, I moded it with training wheels so I wouldn't fall again! Not too bad just get sore when I walk or bend over or sit wrong or.....not too bad, thanks for asking.

captainchaos Dec 19, 2006 08:11 PM

LOL! you knew you were going to get some smartass remark by having that thing in the background didn't you? Well sounds like you're pretty sore but hopefully/thankfully nothing worse. Where have I heard that before?..."I'm fine it only hurts when I breath." Feel better.

windaddiction Dec 21, 2006 02:48 PM

got one on onder 125 then 20 for shipping should be here in the new year! ahh to think I used to belive they should limit new riders to small cc bikes, then where would I be for used parts lol.... j/k

windaddiction Jan 16, 2007 06:07 PM

well it's finally getting close to being done. Only problem I ran into with the 929 tripel and goxxer front end is that the space between the forks is a few mm smaller on the gixxer triple, but no worries lossend the axel let everythign settle and it looks ok. Going to use the gixxer clip ons instead fo a bar riser setup. And then get a coupel 6 inch round lights for headlights and fab up a small windscreen

azhawk1 Jan 17, 2007 10:29 AM

actually I used passenger pegs from a gsxr600 on my vtr since they cleared the TBR high-mount s-bends (micron cans). I had to reem out the holes a bit, but not much. I only put them on when I rode 2-up (rare).

Wow is all I have to say , what a difference. The bike sucks up the road and it feels very neutral. I like it a lot . Cant waot for soem track days when it warms up! Now just gotta fab up a head light and windscreen!

superhawk22 Jan 24, 2007 08:40 PM

Looks GOOD!! Love the brakes too, I didn't know it was the newer radial mount type forks. What's wrong with the stock plastics or are you doing the streetfighter look?
