Front Sprocket

Ours is the same as? 929 correct?

Finally gonna go 2 down in the front. I'd prefer Vortex or Sunstar, but Parts411.com doesn't list those choices for our bike.

TIA

Vortex makes them I have one on my bike, can't remember the # if you can wait until tomorrow I can get it for you.

Erik S. 05-17-2009 06:52 PM

I think I found it on yet another site. I'm in no hurry, if you can grab the number.

superhawk22 05-17-2009 07:01 PM

No problem I'll check the vortex book for you tomorrow then.

Tweety 05-18-2009 05:32 AM

Actually the front sprocket is the same on the CBR1000RR and the Superhawk...:)

REDVTR1000 05-18-2009 06:22 AM

2 down in the front! wow.

-2 in front is not usually recommended, as it really makes the chain wrap around a much tighter radius. Using this gear short term to figure out a gear ratio might be OK, but I would think about later going back to a larger countersprocket with a MUCH larger rear sprocket (a better bet for drivetrain longevity) Wheelie City, baby!

finepooch 05-18-2009 07:01 AM

-1 was a bit change for my hawk. -2, wow!!!

Firestorm996 05-18-2009 11:34 AM

never heared someone running a 14 front, this might cause the chain running very tight and possibly destroying the rubber guard on the swingarm, but not 100% sure as noone i know has tried that yet.....

Erik S. 05-18-2009 02:53 PM

That was a typo! Down 1 in the front.

Is there a strength difference between steel and Chromoly steel? Found a Chromoly steel for $21.95

superhawk22 05-19-2009 02:55 PM

Sorry never got on the computer yesterday, the vortex part # is 3523-15 and is the same front sprocket for the 1000rr, rc51, 929/954, 919 and the 90-97 vfr750. Hope that helps you out.

j_frank 05-24-2009 07:49 PM

95 900rr runs same front and rear for stock gearing as well

Erik S. 05-25-2009 06:32 PM

I bought one. $22 plus shipping.

Put it on Friday. All I can say is "WOW". The bike pulls HARD all the way to red. On the interstate, I thought it was very comfortable around 80, pulls hard since your right around 5000 RPM.

Very happy. Now I understand why everyone who has made this change raves about it.

Kelevra 05-31-2009 05:18 PM

Nice!
I dropped a toof on my former Gix 750, wow, what a difference down low, and midrange...!

evil3gamer 06-09-2009 01:36 AM

does this mod affect the gas/mileage any?

Erik S. 06-09-2009 04:40 AM

Evil, it's hard to tell, since it changes the speedo/Odo.

Gas mileage, obviously, always depends on the wrist.

If I ride nice, and keep my wrist up, it's better, if I ride like I should on the Hawk with the wrist down, it's not so nice.

I can't give you a definitive answer on this.

superhawk22 06-09-2009 02:24 PM

It will effect it some because it will put you in a higher RPM when cruising around but it is very minimal.

I went to a 15 on the front and found my range dropped by about 15%. I think its from 2 factors. The carbies are running more on the main jets than before, and I found that due to the better acceleration, I twist the throttle more than I would normally.

If you go for a highway ride but don't use 6th gear, this is pretty much what your bike will feel like with a smaller front sprocket.

evil3gamer 06-18-2009 11:50 PM

hey fozzy thanks for the great analogy! Im thinking pretty seriously about making that change to the front sprocket. Is a noticeable enough of a change to just go down one toothe in the front or should i work with the back too?

plus on a side note. somebody please tell met the difference between a firestorm and my SH! cus im getting jelous of that beasty named copy off! :) actually im just feeling a little ignorant and im pretty sure that there is a really simple answer to my question.

holmin 06-19-2009 12:35 AM

Evil, the Superhawk and Firestorm are the same bike, but in Europe its called Firestorm

Bit of a personal preference. Some people have 15/43 and love it. I'm not going to touch the rear as I do too many highway miles and the bike would be revving too high.

Another thing I noticed is that rear tyre wear increases due to the harder acceleration.
(and they are called firestorms in Oz too)

evil3gamer 06-19-2009 01:18 PM

wow..i kinda feel like a jackass now....owell gotta learn somehow right?
