Fork Braces

I know some of you run a fork brace (Hawkrider). I almost got one years ago. Do they really make an appreciable difference? Superbrace sells one for almost $150! Their installation instructions are generic. It appears you loose the "rock guards" (which I extended) but I guess taller replacements could be added. How much fender clearance is there? There was another manufacturer :?: years ago that made a nice set but I think stopped selling them. I think CaffineRacer has their's.

I know there are quite a few members here that are quite handy around the machine shop, has anyone thought of/tried to CNC their own fork brace? It seems like a pretty simple fabrication. Especially when you consider the $150 price tag.
