F4i shock?

Looks the same as the SH except with a reservoir. Anyone measured it or install one?

The F4i shock, while cheap and abundant on the market, is much shorter and the spring rate much lighter than the superhawk. I "pioneered" this mod on the vtec vfr and it works well for light riders. It may fair better on the VTR with its lighter weight tho' but it will need a substantial upper extension.

Also, because of the VTR's dual exhaust it might be difficult to reach the rebound adjuster screw on the bottom. Again, pic is from a VFR with a right side only exhaust.

On superbling, I successfully ran a penske cbr954 shock because it was valved/sprung for a heavy 954 rider (210+ lbs) since stock is also lighter than the 'hawk. No closeup handy but you can see the reservoir in this shot.

At 345mm, the VTR shock is about the longest modern honda shock made. The VFR and cbr1100xx are the next closest in size and spring rate. Unfortunately, these aren't upgrades either (rebound only, no reservoir, etc). FWIW: On superbling I also experimented with a very tired fox cbr900rr, a ducati 916, R6, R1, an ohlins VTR unit in dire need of a rebuild and of all those the worn out ohlins was still the best.

R1 shock with custom spring sure looked purty tho'!

your seat is very nice!!! what is the brand name???

inderocker 01-17-2008 06:30 PM

Looks loke a Corbin.

superbling 01-17-2008 06:39 PM

Yup, leather corbin; very nice and comfy. I eventually went with a modified VFR seat with sargent foam added as it fit the 5.7 gal VFR tank (pictured) better.

Veles 01-17-2008 06:43 PM

thats a very nice looking bike super!

how hard is it to fit a vfr tank? i need a new tank anyways and it seems like vfr tanks are more common and cheaper

edit: i found the guide how to do it http://www.easternriders.net/vfr_vtr.htm

Hey at least he gave us credit; cool. Here's my thread from the knowledge base forum. A forum all newbs should be required to read! LOL

How's it going superbling, just wondering what type of exhausts you have on your VTR and if you can use them with the pillion pegs?
Cheers mate.

superbling 01-17-2008 09:43 PM

In those pics, stock RC51's with a bafflectomy-lite and nope.

1st post since '06? WOW, drawing out the deep lurkers with this one. :)

Hey superbling, which model vfr shock would work best? There's a 90-93 vfr penske shock on ebay for a great price. Check out item 220210138561

Involute 03-08-2008 04:52 PM

No that shock won't work as it uses a different bottom mount.

As posted in our classifieds, here's a VFR unit that will with minor modding (adding a spacer to get the correct length):

Andy and Involute,

THANKS. I really liked it too. Funny story: The buyer bargained me down $200 over the phone which I had budgeted in before hand but then paid asking price when he picked it up! LOL
