Emergency R/R Advice
 

I just burned through my battery on my superhawk which is also my only vehicle and only way of getting to work.


The best R/R my mechanic has is this part
009RECTIFIER, REGULATE
31600-MV4-010 (replaces 31600-MV4-000)

I feel like I have to go with this because of circumstances but I am wondering whether I should still eventually swap to the one Wicky recommended (viewable here: Yamaha Shindengen FH020AA Regulator w Connectors Replaces FH012AA | eBay )


If so I would go for the cheap original which is only $100 until I can get that one.


I'm not to worried about the price difference, I just want to have a really reliable commuter at this point.

Most ANY R/R can be temporally wired in and work for the short term, while you source a Mosfet R/R and install it using a sealed type OEM plugs.

Where do you live? I have a good, later model non-MOSFET R/R you can have to get you back on the road. But you will want to change it to a MOSFET type R/R as soon as possible.

I ended up feeling kinda rush and went with the one designed by Honda (the better of the two choices that I had.

I had to get to work today so I had to get one and I'm hoping that the $200 one I chose will last a while.

It probably won't is the sad truth...

Install a mosfet one with better wiring ( total cost ~$100) when you get a chance and carry the new stock one in a zip lock bag as spare.

Wow, 200 clams? Is that with installation? Sounds steep. I also use my hawk for primary transport so always have an RR waiting just in case. An R1 unit is like 50 bucks on fleabay.

Its also what prompted me to have extra wheels with tires on it in case of catastrophic tire failure.

Order some good quality wiring from this guy Connectors

Its the wires that help cause the failures. Use dielectric grease to help put this unpleasant experience behind you for a long time.
