Easy risers and bar setup
 

So I'm looking to install superbike bars but I'm cheap. I have access to a full machine shop, I'm thinking I can buy some short risers and drill the upper tree and mount low ride bars. My question is could I do this and use the factory brake and clutch lines of I stay low. Thanks everyone. I've built one bike and this is my first sport bike.

You won't get very far with the OE lines.

I'm not really looking for much just want to run bars instead of clipons. The main reason is I plan to make a mounting plate to hold my new gauge cluster and it would mount under the risers. Is drilling the upper an acceptable thing to do?

I don't know if it's acceptable but many have done it. I used Suzuki SV650 bar mounts from EBay. I may have used a doubler under the upper tree, don't recall. Used Superbike bars from Bikemaster. Had to buy longer hydraulic lines.

For taller clipons or superbike bars, people usually extend the brake and clutch lines 2-3 inches. That means custom lines, which is ~$200 new. I can find out the length of my custom lines for you. They were made three inches longer than stock. Once you have the length, go on eBay and look for used brake lines with the length needed from most any make of motorcycle.

EDIT: My lines, which are 3 inches longer than stock, are 31 inches long. This measurement was taken from the center of one banjo fitting to the center of the other banjo fitting.

I started down this path but stopped. The upper triple was not engineered to be drilled for risers. Be careful you don't make the bike unsafe.

Ok so I think as of right now I'm going to keep the clipons. But I need a place to mount my aftermarket gauges. I'm thinking of making a mounting plate and attaching it to the upper tree. I would have to drill it but it will just be holding on the new gauges behind a cheap "streetfighter" headlight. I'm really just trying to get on the road right now. I've got plans for the bike but it is my first sport bike and I'm still unsure how much money and time I want to spend on it. But new gauges and headlight will have to be on it to ride since the factory fairings are in very shitty shape.
