Fellow forum member Jack Flash lent me a CBR900RR swingarm he hacked up for its brace in order to allow me to try a test fit of my CBR600RR-sourced Dymag carbon rear wheel. Drum roll please........... It's a perfect fit!!!!!!! Seems as though the only mod I will need is to fit a reduction sleeve in the captive spacers to reduce them to 20mm from their present 25mm ID (that or get new spacers machined that will have the smaller internal diameter). Major relief at this end, I was worried that I was going to have to mess with spacers to get the wheel to fit and be properly centered, and now it seems as though I won't have to resort to that headache.... Always nice when a project turns out to be less hassle than initially feared :)

I haven't yet tried the front wheel, but as the triple clamps I am currently using are from a 600RR, I would expect it to be a straight swap (same 20mm axle size btw). The only potential hiccup would be if the ZX-10R fork lower is of a different width than the 600's, in which case some minor fiddling with spacer thickness would be in order.... here's to hoping that is not the case.......

I'm putting 04/05 zx10r forks on my Firestorm using CBR600rr triples, already in place. All spacing measurements are centreline. According to my calculations, based on the difference between the ZX10r fork and disk spacing (215mm fork, 143mm disk) and the CBR fork spacing (204mm)
the ideal should be 132mm disk spacing.

Stock wheel has 130mm disk spacing. Should be able to get away with 1mm each side, they are floating piston calipers and the pistons will self align.

04-05 ZX10r forks have the added advantage of having the same dia axle as the 'storm, although they don't have replaceable fork bushes- they're pressed in. The 06 onward had replaceable bushes, but also the bigger axle.

Interestingly, the later GSXR600 front wheel (08-09, not sure what other years) has 132mm disk spacing and the fat axle, with spokes not unlike the the VTR1000f and CBR600rr (ie not straight like the earlier GSXR models). Might be worth thinking about for later zx10r forks, especially as its much lighter (from what I have heard, never weighed it myself)
A later model, (but still straight spoke) GSXR1000 wheel I measured came to 133mm disk centres- but that may have been the cheap measuring tape I used. Still in the ballpark, though.
