cutting down stock cans

i have a stock set of cans and a set of debaffled cans that i am currently running. i was wondering if anyone has ever cut down the stock cans (5-6 inches) sucessfully.. would jetting be required then... too loud as if there is such a thing -lol let me have if :)

Cutting down the stock cans, with the baffles, wouldn't work...because of the baffles.

Cans with bafflectomy could be cut down, and would require rejetting cut down or not.

Also you can't just remove rivets to pull the end caps like aftermarket cans, so you would need to cut and then re-weld the cans back together.

Add to that the stock cans has a steel inner and a chrome sleeve over it, so I don't think it would really be worth the effort but it can be done if you really want to.

You could throw the stock cans on ebay and probably get enough to get these: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=23893

By the way I butchered and shortened my SV's muffler. I cut the end off then pulled all the baffles and crap out of it then welded the end back on. Basically, it was just an empty stock muffler. The result: ear splitting noise that sounded like a garbage disposal. It was a complete failure. If you welded in a perforated core like in a typical slip on, then filled the empty space with muffler packing it would probably work. The only downside is the stock midpipe is probably 1.5", which is smaller than the typical slipon size of 2".

Hey, Top... My father attempted that feat.. with mixed results.
The cans had a strange rattle at 4200 to 8500 internally, His bike(1998)-i don't remember a re-jet of the carbs
Tell you the truth- i remember him complaining about having to grind or cut the factory bracket loose from the outer part of the can..
If i look in the shop- i might still have those in the parts storage room-
