clutch master swap or rebuild?
I've noticed over the last few months that it seams like my clutch pull is getting more and more difficult, and it is to the point now where using 1 finger to clutch up a wheelie is quite difficult.
Has anyone had this issue before? Would rebuilding my master and slave help this issue? Has anyone swapped clutch masters for an easier clutch pull? If so which master is the best to use? (I was thinking swapping to a radial) |
Brembo radial master from a late-model Ducati makes for a lighter pull.....
|
Does it change how long the throw is between engaged and disengaged?
|
Also any specific model I should be looking at? Or are all the late model clutch brembo's the same?
|
Far as I know all late model Ducs use the same MC. Mine came from a Monster 1100 but it's the same unit used on all 848/1098/1198 series bikes, for example. If you find one, perhaps do a cross-reference with an aftermarket lever mfr (like Pazzo) to make sure it's the same. If the lever is shared, it's the same unit.
I can't comment on the stroke as it's been a while since I changed, but the Brembo is very smooth and light and disengages the clutch fully, which is all the matters. |
Yeah I was just checking because I know some Kawi's and Suzuki's used 18/19 mm masters for their clutches and those models don't swap over.
Thanks for the help. |
Brembo is a 15x18 IIRC. You'll need a new banjo bolt as the thread is a fine pitch (M10-1.0 vs M10-1.25 on Nissin).... rest is straightforward

Brembo master came in today. Couldn't help but toss her on, and I must say it is a huge difference. Lever pull is butter. and I must say it looks pretty sweet too!!

Thanks for the help mik! it was exactly what I was looking for! |
I know this is old thread, but I had to test drive a busa today after rebuilding most of front end. I didn't realize how hard my clutch pull had gotten until riding busa. My levers are cut down for 2 fingers, and has gotten extremely hard. Busa was like nothing, It is time to do some maintenance or upgrade!

Will the brembo radial shown above fit behind the fairing of a superhawk using standard clipons?

I have a Brembo brake master, with 3'' risers, and it clears. I don't see why the clutch side would not fit with OEM clip ons.
|
I used an older CBR or VFR m/c with integrated reservoir.
It has a light pull and is silky smooth. But the volume may be a touch low since the shifting (not pull) seems smoother with the stock m/c. |
Great... Another mod for the list.

Brembo knock off work? |
well, I'd rather cut corners on the clutch side than the front brake......
|
That knock off has different numbers than the ones Mikstr gave me. The numbers matter (bore and stroke).

shop around for a used OEM Duc Brembo, they can be had for a decent price and are a nice step up (and proven to work)....

So how do you perceive it better? What about, feel, release, pressure, feedback or whatever is better in the OEM Duc Brembo clutch master cylinder. And was that comparing to fully working serviceable OEM VTR master or replacing one that had many years of use and needed a rebuild? What year and model Ducati is best for donor ? Thanks Erik |
Lighter and smoother action... works for me.
In terms of year and model, mine was sourced from a Monster 1100 but I think most all late-model Ducs use the same radial clutch MC (a 15 x 18). Your best bet is to cross-reference any potential unit with the Monster unit, for example (recommend using the Pazzo site for lever fitment for this purpose) |
