Cheap ignition advancer idea??

Hi, i was just thinking how to make a cheap advancer and i think i got it.
Can`t i just remove the teeth from the OEM advancer plate so it can freely rotate(when not tightened the holding bolt).
So i can adjust it in the position i like , may put samo marks ot it to scale the degrees advance.
Rotate it to 4 degrees, tighten the bolt and there you have it - cheap adjustable advancer:D

I am just not sure it will not loose position during rotation.

Any opinions??
(a OEM plate is less than 10$ so i may give it a try)

The first question would be,what year bike do you have?

The advancers only work with the early model ECU, so if you have a 2001 or later, an advancer will not work for you.

Second, I personally do not think your idea will work out. You will be shooting for 4 degrees of advance and setting it along with holding it in place while tightening and\or running might not work out so well.

If you have to try and modify a stock advancer, I would work on the splines in the center of it. Work out how much material to remove from each tooth to get the 4 degrees of advance and then you would be able to hold it in position while tightening it.

Either way, it will be a lot of work and you can pick one up pretty cheap if you look around.

It is 98 bike(probably) 97.

If i draw a scale on it showing the degrees it must not be soo hard.
And machinig the teeth is too much work.

How cheap i can get one?
I got once FP adjustble for my katana fo 20$:evillaugh:
