Chain length
I have done a search on this and I saw one person post an answer, but I just want to check and see if there is a consensus on this. I currently have a 16/43 set-up with a stock chain. I purchased a 44 tooth rear sprocket last year and was waiting til this year to install it. I am about to purchase a new chain thru a place that will cut it to length for no extra cost. So my question is, should the length be 104 links, plus the master link? Thanks in advance...

With a 44T rear sprocket you do need to run a 104 link chain.
A 43T sprocket can still use the stock 102 link chain, anything bigger and you need to start adding links. |
Thanks for the reply. Now to find a chain at a reasonable price.........

I attempted to have a 43T installed with my stock chain, mech said no go.

I am running 16-43 gearing with the stock 102 links also-works great-I love that it shortened the wheelbase a bit for faster turn-in! Mort

You sure that your chain was 102 links? I'm not saying that it's not, but i'm running 16/43 comfortably with 102...
Sorry for the thread revive, just looking into chain info. What's the best 530 chain to run? |
I think that's kind of like asking, what's the best oil, or what are the best tires.
I replaced my OEM chain at over 41k miles with a DID 530 ZVM2. It was 120 links, so I had to cut it down, no problem, since I got a good price on it at the dealer. The reason I replaced it with DID was mainly based on DID's reputation, and I wanted the best quality. |
Yeah, I suppose. I figured there were fewer ligitimately good choices. I searched "best chain" and didn't come back with much.

You want the chain to be O or X ring, to keep grime out of it, and you want it to be a decent quality, so that the rated tensile is roughly close to the real... Other than that, pick whatever you like, the difference is mainly name/looks... And in the end the old one, "you get what you pay for", is still a rough estimate... Cheapo chains usually wear a lot faster...
I prefer DID myself, but like said above, it's like an oil thread... ;) |
Replaced mine in the spring with DID520ZVMX. Went 520 with a 43T stealth rear and 16T front. 102 links worked fine. With ~3500 miles on it seems to be holding up quite well

yeah anyone know where to get the DID chains at a good price? Im sure they're all around the same price... but if anyone knows I'd appreciate it.
