carb problems
 

I have a 2000 superhawk stock carbs my problem is sometimes it has a hesataion in the motor and rpms go up and down the other day it shut off on me. In 5th and 6th gear it runs really rough not bucking but like its back firing a lil also the guy who had it before me put a jet kit in or so he said and put a 2 to 1 exhaust with a tiny can have no idea what kind. and i took the pair control valve out and fliped the reeds shut so it would not pop when i shifted gears and the air filter and plugs are brand new and i have never had this bike in the rain since i have owned it

unknown jet kit, modified 2-1 exhaust with cut down can.... you are in for a bit of tuning.....

So if you don't know how to set up jetting and read plugs, along with knowing what rich or lean feels or sounds like. you are in for a long haul to get it to run right, if you ever can and I have to believe this is your situation or you wouldn't be posting....

Sorry to say that I can't help you out much and when it comes to the carbs on this bike, yes I have set up a few pairs of them.....

I'd start by pulling the carbs, disassembling them and doing a good cleaning. Take special care to clean the pilot jets and blow them out with compressed air, after removing them of course.

From there, find out what jets and needles are in there. If the cleaning doesn't help dramatically, like 8541hawk said, you're in for a long haul.

But if you get it running right, you'll love this bike.

Thanks guys i guess im going to get rollin on this thing but the only thing is im not to sure how to adjust these carbs ive only tuned dirt bikes and old v8 motors in cars and trucks all i see to work with is the fast idle screw and one on the rear carb i know im running rich right now and it dosnt help that the bike has basicly straight pipes on it so it like yall said im in for the long haul
