Cam gear question.
 

I've just replaced my cams with Yoshi st-1 set. The bike runs great with very noticable improvement from mid range on up, but the cams really need to be degreed in properly. Does anybody know of aftermarket adjustable cam gears for the superhawk, or have experience slotting them. Also, any info on timing cams for optimum performance. What degree to advance or retard from stock.

slotting is going to be difficult. The gears are nitrided and are extremely hard.

actually the sprockets are not bad to slot. you can use a die grinder or even a file - you only need a few degress (viewed as a 360 degree circle) on either side - if you check them first you may only need to slot 1 side.

Falikon also still carries slotted sprockets for these - just be sure they understand its the VTR1000F, not the vtr1000R or RC51 bike.

Although I had my dealer install them (so I am not speaking from first-hand experience) I had my exhaust cams (if I remember correctly) degreed with an additional 2 degrees of advance (further to a chat with a tech at Yoshi USA; again, subject to my memory but I am almost certain it was advanced) in order to spruce up the midrange further (at the expense of a slight loss of top end; I hardly ever rev it over 7 K anyhow, instead letting the torque pull me along ) and this was accomplished via slotting.
