BMC race vs BMC street vs DNA vs K&N
I've heard mixed feelings on these filters. Obviously I want the highest flow possible. What is the best choice for my SH with stage one jetting and after market exhaust?
|
What type of jet kit? I believe it is tough to get one of those kits running well with a high-flow filter.
Also, are you running a full exhaust or slipons? The resulting top-end will be negligible with anything but a full exhaust. Plus, high flow filters essentially move the power up in the powerband, so you'll lose a smidgen of the SHawk's bottom-end power. So it may not be worthwhile if you don't keep the bike revved high. |
whichever filter you get the jetting has to be changed and likely the needle position as well. I have the k&N and it took awhile to get right and I eventually took it to a shop to get running well. if you get a BMC go for the BMC race... just my $.02

I had a k and n and Jardine High mount race baffles, I have a combo of a Factory jet kit and a Dyno Jet kit in mine. Ran like a top. Kindof pricey though having 2 jet kits to buy.

Here's something I read recently about Air Filters
|
Yeah I read that same article. On most bikes with a tuned airbox the stock filters seem create more power. I'd love to save the $100 and use my stocker but its dirty and I don't want to pay $70 for a stock non-reusable air filter.

Very interesting article.....Thanks a lot!! |
I think it varies from bike to bike. On the 1000RR they claim that the BMC makes more power and the K&N you can actually lose power. I don't think that comparison takes tuning into account though. I have a K&N on my bike and it runs just fine with the Factory kit.

I've read that but remember we do have a different motor/airbox and fuel system then the rc51. Plus personally I've noticed a difference between stock and the k&N. And that was after jet kit for the exhaust and stock filter then switching to k&N and exhaust |
K&N, Factory Pro Kit, 48 Pilots, 4 degree advancer, Runs like a great.

My bike mechanic is very, very competent, an endurance racer, and a former Super Hawk owner. When I got my Jardine high mounts, I discussed a re-jet with him. He adviced me "to never, under any circumstances, put anything but a stock air filter in a Super Hawk." I didn't even bother to ask why. That was enough for me.
