air filter installation

I have an 05' hawk with a little over 5k miles on it and am probably due for a change to my air filter. One little problem though. I don't know where the air filter is located or how to get to it. I am not an expert mechanic but I have done some small mods myself like changing the sprockets. Thank you

Unless you're riding dusty dirt roads, the air filter is good to 12k miles. It is located in the airbox directly under the fuel tank. Best you download the service manual which is linked on this site here somewhere.

Its under the gas tank... here is a link to the service manual which should help you with any maintenance you need to do...

But be careful not to drop the 2 front screws. I've lost them 2times allready. And when replacing the filter there are 2 rubber square thingies. Make sure they stay in place. Mine got sucked in one of the carburators on my last ride. Pretty scary when the power droppes dramasticly when you are on one knee.

+1 on the two screws at the front of the air filter box lid which attach it to the air filter box base. The screws are black and they're very difficult to find when they're dropped and disappear into the inky darkness beside the carburetors. A 10 minute job can become very long indeed. Make sure you've got a magnet to retrieve them.
The filter change is easier to do if you make a prop the hold the tank up at the front. Otherwise you've got to remove it.
The two rubber square thingies go with a K+N replacement filter. The stock filter doesn't require them.
