929/954 front end geometry

Hello everyone, I'm about to do a 929 front end swap on my Superhawk and am looking for information from others who have done the same. Specifically how far above the top triple clamps your forks are and how you have set up your rear suspension (shims, adjustable ride height, etc.) I'd just like to get a rough idea of where to start from.

Thanks,
Zach

Before you remove the stock front end, measure the distance from the axle to a fixed point on the frame. Replicate that with your new forks as a good starting point.

You will end up with very little of the fork above the triple clamp, your clip ons will have to go below the top triple. (I got clip ons with 3.5 inches of rise, and I think they are slightly lower than the stock bar location)

I have a write up of my 954 swap linked in my signature.

Thanks lazn. For future reference I found this thread while searching https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=14586 It is about setting up a Hawk with CBR1000RR forks but contains a lot of good information.

Yep, I read that (and every other swap thread I could find) before I did my swap.

That made the whole thing a one afternoon job. (long afternoon, but still was riding again the same day)

I still needed to tweak my ride height slightly to get the right front end feel, but a good baseline is to set it up close to stock.

almost done!

Well I got everything mounted yesterday. My measurements were;
stock center of axle to bottom of serial number casting 22"
after installing 929 parts 21-1/2"
The forks are almost all the way down in the upper triple (right where the retaining ring would normally be) Sound about right?

My 954 forks ended up with about 9-10mm above the upper triple but the 929 may be different. I'd give it a ride to see how it feels. If it kinda "flops" into turns you have to raise the forks in the triples some, if it "dives" too easily (prone to headshake) you have to push them even further down. (which it sounds like you can't)

One thing to watch for is that the brake lever may hit the fairing (or fairing stay if you are test riding with no fairing) when you turn left if you don't have your clipons adjusted right.. This happened to me on my first test ride and I tipped the bike over when turning around because of it. (love my T-Rex sliders)
