520 Conversion Update

The 15/43 feels fantastic. I'm turning 4k rpm @ 70 (displayed). Low end accelleration is increased (did someone say wheelie?) but manageable even for this newbie. Got a second opinion on the "knock" I was hearing. All say is ok and just normal for performance V-twin. I must admit it didn't break at 155 mph so all is well for now. Or was that 55 mph... yeah, that's what it was. Thanks for the advice/opinions. Next is the stainless cables. I'll try to get pics up soon.

you realize that with the gearing change, at indicated 155 you were really doing 55 right? (kidding)

Every 1000 rpm generates just shy of 16 (15.8 actually) mph in top gear with 15/43 gears.

Depending on the circumference of the rear tire. They do vary a bit. Here's the 520 setup I put together last fall.

I purchased the exact same set-up after reading that post of yours. Definitely the best deal I've found. I went with a 530 chain and sprockets though. Cost a little extra but I'm hoping to get a little more life out of 'em, and I'm not too concerned with the weight yet. Need to put a few more miles on the bike before I can justify the need to drop chain and sprocket weight. I'm at school now and don't have the tools/time to put them on so I'm anxiously awaiting the end of the semester so I can get home!

I'm about to do a 520 conversion this weekend. I went with a DID chain and 15/43 JT sprockets. Can anyone tell me if the front sprocket has a standard or reverse thread?

Thanks!

http://www.sumofallparts.com (no afilliation). They will customize the sprocket to whatever you want. Really wanted to go with the black teflon coating rather than the plain ALUMINUM rear but couldn't wait 3 weeks. Hit the hillcountry this morning for 1 1/2 hours and face hurts from grinning.

The bolt has standard threads.

jt 15/43 here. mt conversion went well with rk rivet chain here. my 15 yr old daughter installed it while I "helped". You wont have a problem. I went and purchased a garman 33 GPS has MPH while viewing map. solved my speedo problem. I had to get it for my trip to Sturgis from NC this Aug. Hope you enjoy as much as I have.

I ordered my 520 conversion kit two days ago....went with teflon coating for the extra 20.00.....the wait time does suck though!
