2 into 1 question

I just finished modifying my exhaust into a 2 into 1 system by chopping the left side header exit and welding a patch on it. Welded a "Y" connector on the right mid pipe and running two shortened Jardine cans off of it.
I've seen a few modified bikes on here running a 2 into 1 and was curious if there were any serious power loss issues?

I ran a 2-1 for the better part of two seasons and the bike ran well. The only thing was that the there was a dip in the mid-range (between 4,800 and 6,000 rpm) noticeable moreso on the dyno than in the seat of the pants. It seemed to run slightly stronger in the bottom-end too.

That sounds great... My bike is mainly used for commuting so I don't rev too far past 5k very often. Definitely excited about the increase in bottom end power, though. Were you running stock jetting at the time?

2 into 1? Sounds like a 2-1-2 setup which is identical to stock. You just have the two cans on the same side.

I gained some up top but lost torque. I have a thread and pics around here somewhere. Try an Advanced Search for my thread.

Re-uploaded pics that were lost in the last server crash.

I was running a DJ kit set up for Micron slip-ons. Based on info received from a chap in the UK (Daz Sear) with extensive knowledge of this set-up (2-1), I stuck with the same jetting and it ran fine. Not sure how it would have reacted with a Factory kit or stock jetting, however. Also, every bike and every one-off exhaust has its own characteristics so you may have jetting issues to contend with. You can have a look at my set-up by looking at the pics in my album (2-1 with right side exit can, using a link pipe and Blue Flame Dual Port can originally designed for a 1998 R1).

Well, yes and no... The "y" pipe referred to is a Jardine hi mount mid pipe with another pipe tapped into it that is all of 4" long. But, yeah if you want to get technical...

Hawkrider- Looked at your pics. Looks damn good. You went back to the original set up right? I chopped and capped my header in the exact spot you did, looks exactly the same. Thanks for the link.

I went with high mount Jardines for the look, the color, and the price. Plus, I never did get it jetted "just right". I think I would have needed custom cut needles to get where I needed, though I never did revert to the stockers to see if they worked. I should've tried that.
