104 links for 520 conversion?
Hey all!
I just received my new supersprox 520 conversion from sprocketcenter for the hawk today. Installed the 43 rear sprocket and 15 front and when i went to put the chain on it is definitely to big. The chain I received was a D.I.D 520ERV3 104 link chain. After placing the chain on the rear sprocket to match it all up I will have to adjust the chain adjusters all the way out to get this thing secure with the master link. Anyone else have this same problem with a 15/43 setup 104 link? Thanks! |
Just did another measurement and 102 links is going to have to work. Ill have to remove 2 links for the master link to match up and it actually looks like it is going to work out perfect with 102 links rather than 104... Does that sound right...?

Yes.
102 is the stock length. Which works fine with -1/+2 gearing. Chains almost always come longer than necessary. Usually 120 links. |
You must have gotten their last 520 43T stealth, mines back ordered... I'm going 16/43 and did not specify the length so I'll have to wait and see what they send.
I'll be interested to see what you think of the ERV3 chain. I had them substitute the ZVMX for me. I was a bit hesitant to go 520 because of life. The ZVMX had thicker plates and was rated a touch stronger |
Cool. Yeah i was just worried that maybe i was missing something after hearing people were using 104 links for +2 rear sprocket change, but i guess 102 links is still the way to go for -1 +2.
So far the quality is great! Couldnt be more impressed with the rear sprocket and the chain looks great. Im sure the strength will be fine. I dont plan on doing anything crazy with the setup so we will see when i get her running. Thanks! |
Gotta a quick question regarding the lube on the chain. The chain came pre-lubed but is that good enough for installing and riding or should I re apply some new chain lube? Just curious..
Thanks! |

Thanks! You should clean all the grease off ( mineral spirits or kerosene work well for this) then dry the chain and use whichever chain lube lets you sleep best at night before you ride it. |

The chain really isn't "pre-lubed" it is packed in grease to keep it from rusting. ;)
