Ok sO I have pulled obtained new gaskets and pulled off the exhaust pipes to take a look at whats going on. I am not sure that there are any actual cracks but rather it looks like the welder at honda was having epiliptic siezures on the job. In any case I am headed down to a muffler shop to get their opinion on wether or not these should be patched. Seeing as they are a muffler shop I think they might find a reason. Below are pictures. I found no gaskets at all. Unless you can see some that I do not. Input is certainly appreciated. And of course a music video for this repair is coming. Haha, nope, you had no gaskets! Surprise! Guess you found somewhat of a dud bike like I did. Good news is, now you know more about your bike, and it will most definitely fit together better. That crack still worries me, but I'm sure you can tell more in person or at the muffler shop.
The gaskets aren't hard to push in- they're kind of a friction fit but soft and they crush a little bit when you tighten the clamps (hence the one time use). The copper gaskets are a little tricky, and be aware of the torque specs when tightening the pipes to the motor heads as they don't need to be tightened as much as you would think. |
Also, if you want to/have time while they're off, grab some steel wool or a scotch-brite pad and some wd-40 and clean some of that rust off. They're already corroded enough that you don't have to worry about ruining any factor coating on them...

You can remove the dent by freezing water in the pipe. fill with water, get the ends to freeze first by wrapping a warm towel around the area that has the dent then the ends will freeze and since water expands it will push the dent out

Ok Took it to meinekie and had to cracks welded up for 34$ after tax

grr so here is a big concern of mine that came true. The gasket does not fit. The guy at the shop said I should not try to bend the tabs out but now I am not sure what to do. The gaskets going to each muffler simply will not fit and cannot be coaxed either but much worse that this. Those are not a big concern to me though since they dont actually leak. I may need to contact kereker for those gaskets. The front cylinder though does not have a casket. I cleaned it up with some goo off and I can see the lip where the gasket should have been. any suggestions on how to get this gasket in? I am going to have to have to bend those tabs methinks.

Good to see the weld done on the header - been there done that :-)
Check the copper head gasket isn't still in the exhaust outlet on the cylinder head - as it crushes and get sooty from carbon, gets camouflaged and needs prising out . To get the new header/link graphite seal in - remove old clamp and carefully open up the pipe flange to allow the seal to fit in, might want to try copper grease to lube it in. Use copper grease on all your exhausts fittings - Was your bike imported to sunny Florida from a more northerly State as I thought the climate wouldn't be so corrosive... |
Ok installed and working. Also fixed my headlamp and got oil changed. Video to come.
