Recently I had a chance to try out new bulbs from LuminicsBulbs.com. They've been making bulbs for the automotive industry and are now trying to break into the motorcycle industry. I just thought I'd write a review to let you guys know what I think...

The JDM Yellow bulbs illuminate the road very well, even in adverse conditions. The Hyper White bulbs were about even with the stock bulb in this regard. However, the color of the Hyper Whites were more to my liking than stock or JDM Yellow.

Given that I ride more often at night, the JDM Yellow are my pick. But if you want to give your bike an appearance closer to that of HID, then the Hyper White bulbs are for you.

hey thanks for that posting/review and all the images - great comparison

since i've not even considered replacing my bulb yet (and my winterized superhawk only has 200 miles on it) i was just wondering out of curiosity how difficult it is to get in there and change the bulb - any tips you have would be great - thanks in advance!

It's actually not hard to change the bulb at all! I couldn't figure it out the first time, though, and ended up taking off the whole upper fairing. :oops:

All you need to do is:

1) Disconnect the headlight harness plug (located beneath the guage cluster; pulls right out).
2) Pull off dust cover (comes off real easy).
3) Now, here's the tricky part - you're going to feel a metal bracket when you reach behind the bulb. You'll need to squeeze it in (towards the headlight plug) and rotate the throttle-side metal part downwards. The metal bracket should then swing towards the clutch side without falling, and the bulb should come right out.

It helps if you've got small hands, or have really flexible digits.

One word of warning on the "JDM YELLOW" bulbs. Check your local laws about riding with ONLY Yellow lights. I've been pulled over in Los Angeles and told that I MUST have at least one white light on a motorcycle and at least 2 WHITE lights on a car. I was lucky and got away with a warning.

My brother installed a Hella 550 Fog light (yellow) on his old Suzuki GS850LTD. He got pulled over in Minnesota for driving with the yellow light on in the daytime (no fog). He did have a "normal" headlight witha "normal" bulb. He did NOT get a warning.
