What material are the stock fairing made of

Any one know what the stock faring material is made of ABS, PVC ??

ABS, but it seems to be a different mix, or process, or something then the after market ABS fairings which are much more brittle

ABS but got to know why you are trying to find out?

Guni was trying to repair a set and was told you can solve ABS plastic in ethyl methel either to make a glue, but I cut up a piece of the fender and it did not solve. Then I made he glue using some Legos which I know are ABS and it did not bond well to the bare fairing material.
That said how sure are you that the black plastic of these hawk fairings are ABS.

Pretty darn sure the original fairings are ABS.... no idea what the fairings on your bike are made of.

But check for your self

There are some great products for gluing abs but it is a thermoplastic which means you can weld it. It can become molten without losing its properties.

Use a soldering iron (carefully don't burn it) and you can rebuild the whole piece.

Mcmaster-carr.com sells abs welding rod cheap.

Here is a success story of a wrecked fairing repaired with a soldering iron, steel mesh and the abs rods.

I've dabbled in plastic welding with a soldiering iron and filler rod.
But once i got a real plastic welder, it became much more efficient and effective..

But cheaper versions are available
Hot Air Welders for TPO or PVC, Membrane Welders, Bak, Laron, Rion

I bought this one

And this

and this

There are other way cheaper version as well..that Im sure will work when received, how long, how well and if replacement parts / service capability is available is another story.

IPS Corp. makes 3 ABS cohesive solvents for "welding"; i.e., Weldon 2354 "Clear, water thin, fast curing solvent cement for joining ABS". It does work on the VTR fairings and will also "gel" ABS shavings and rod into a filler. Be sure to drill tiny holes at the end of cracks to minimize crack attenuation.

Harbor Freight plastic welders. I had one no longer sold which burned up the second time used.

Another thing, In case you want to bend ABS plastic, you can use heat gun as long as you don't burn or cause bubbling/melting, works really well.

Thanks everyone. I wound up welding them together. I just a regular $10 soddering iron. I took some extra time to melt and drag some material in from the edges. I cut up a scrap of the fender and used it as filler rod.
I'm positive these are stock fairing just was unclear why they don't dissolve in the ethyl methyl ether..
